it would have legitimately changed the face of the nation.
Well I guess that’s worth the massive explosion of organized crime and underground market for alcohol
Said nobody
When your leading cause of death is liver crihorssis it becomes a measure that has to be considered (at least I believe that was the leading cause of death pre prohibition, at least for chronic medical causes)
It was such a failure that it managed to have enough support to pass an amendment to repeal the amendment that created prohibition
How many people even died from that before prohibition?
I think it was substantial enough looking into CDC right now.
i may be wrong
Well if you’re using it as the centerpiece of your argument then you should have a good idea on the stats
cirrhosis dropped massively after prohibition
apparently the document is the size of jupiter 1 sec
@killsometime
"The government shouldn’t dictate how the culture evolves though. It should happen organically with the people."
It absolutely should.
holy shit well, time to dive in
"Whenever respect for the State declines and the disintegrating and centrifugal tendencies of individuals and groups prevail, nations are headed for decay"
-Benito Mussolini
Yes, who wouldn’t want to use the ideals of Mussolini in the United States.
Libertarianism doesn't work
Not only from an economic perspective
okay well the CDC's document crashed my plug in
It just never lasts
>inb4 "Well the US was libertarian"
No it wasn't
Wasn’t gonna say that but alright
well good
from ny times
it killed cirhossis rates by 10-20%
from research gate
however state level prohibition didnt do much if anything at all
national prohibition prevents people from other states bringing alcohol in
@killsometime What is the purpose of the state, in your words
To enforce common law and create the means for a functioning economy
While preserving the ideal of personal sovereignty
And promoting it as well
gay
no u
The purpose of the state in my eyes, should be to protect its people from both internal and external forces, while aiming for success and prosperity in the long term.
To do this requires state intervention and a strong government to ensure national unity
I agree. To me that would fall under “creating the means for a functioning economy” because you can’t have a functioning economy if you’re being invaded every 4 years
Second part I’m a little iffy
But mostly on board
