@Doctor Anon We cannot be certain of that

2018-07-26 09:54:06 UTC

ah fuck

2018-07-26 09:54:10 UTC

onion already did a sketch

2018-07-26 09:54:19 UTC

damnit onion

Many animals show what can be interpreted as grieving over the dead, but none show what can be seen as understanding that they will die and the concept of it.

2018-07-26 09:55:40 UTC

elephants are one example

2018-07-26 09:56:36 UTC

They know death happens, but not what it is and that they will be subject to it as well.

2018-07-26 09:56:40 UTC

We do not know that animals dont understand death

2018-07-26 09:56:49 UTC

We do not know they do

2018-07-26 09:57:19 UTC

Again burden of proof is to prove they do understand it, not on me to to prove they dont

2018-07-26 09:57:30 UTC

again even if we didn't know that animals don't understand death would still be a safe assumption

2018-07-26 09:57:30 UTC

how is an elephant grieving over the dead different the na human grieving over the dead

2018-07-26 09:57:46 UTC

Because the human can understand it is going to die as well

2018-07-26 09:58:24 UTC

there is little difference between a human grieveing the dead and an elephant

2018-07-26 09:58:36 UTC

but the real difference is that the human understands the concept of mortality

2018-07-26 09:58:40 UTC

and the elephant doesnt

2018-07-26 09:59:02 UTC

And humans are the only one to have religion

2018-07-26 09:59:03 UTC

The elephant griefed over its youngs death

2018-07-26 09:59:08 UTC

how does it nto understand mortality

2018-07-26 09:59:13 UTC

@Doctor Anon religion is a good point that I can understand

2018-07-26 09:59:39 UTC

elephants see death the same way they see rain

2018-07-26 09:59:44 UTC

it's just something that happens

2018-07-26 09:59:52 UTC

It just happens to them

2018-07-26 10:00:00 UTC

They dont understand *what* it is or what causes it

2018-07-26 10:00:19 UTC

so an animal doesnt know that something eating it kills it?

2018-07-26 10:00:47 UTC

That's on you to prove it does

2018-07-26 10:00:57 UTC

*Are you serious*

2018-07-26 10:01:04 UTC

But in short

2018-07-26 10:01:04 UTC

no

2018-07-26 10:01:13 UTC

to my statement

2018-07-26 10:01:26 UTC

Why do animals flee from predators

2018-07-26 10:01:33 UTC

if they didnt know predators harm them

2018-07-26 10:01:38 UTC

it's instinctive

2018-07-26 10:01:41 UTC

^

2018-07-26 10:01:54 UTC

Because the antelope who didn't flee from the lion didn't get to pass on the non-flee genes.

2018-07-26 10:02:09 UTC

Instinct. Evolution drives them to survive and reproduce

2018-07-26 10:02:36 UTC

Animals will alter behavior when death is impending

2018-07-26 10:02:36 UTC

Explain to me why animals that are sterile dont flee at the same rates from predators as ones that are still in their breeding prime

2018-07-26 10:03:07 UTC

Explain to me why animals that are sterile dont flee at the same rates from predators as ones that are still in their breeding prime

2018-07-26 10:03:16 UTC

Because they're older?
