@ajsbeast Well, the "secret police" you speak of were simply intelligence agents, akin to their counterparts in the West such as the CIA, FBI, etc. And gulags weren't "death camps," they were prisons, and the conditions were actually not much different from many prisons in the West where "corrective labor" was the norm. Most prisoners who were sent to a gulag were eventually released, and most of the ones that weren't released died of natural causes.
