those lines show east at the sunrise on an equinox
would u like me to link the video ?
i've seen the video
i'm explaining the misconception from that video
imagine a path instead of what you see in teh video, but one at a constant latitude
it's a circle around the earth right, parallel to the equator?
yes
and at any point on that path, which way are you facing
not east becuase im not looking at where the sun rises on the equinox
ok this is where you're wrong
maybe
the sun WOULD rise if you looked in that direction
here's another example
if you're travel along the equator, from south america to africa, which direction are you facign
if ur ont he equator east
ok so what if you do the same thing, but instead ofbeing on teh equator, you do it at 20 deg North latitude
what heading would teh compas read
idk not east
why not east
east is perpendicular to north
becuase i cant look at the sunrise east at the equator and look east at the latitude line
so if i do this at 20 deg N, the compass wouldn't read east?
i cant say for certain but im pretty sure it wouldnt
do you know how a compass works?
how can east be 2 different directions
i'ts not
it's perpendicular to north
which is at the north pole, pretty much
if i look east at the sunrise on an equinox im not following a line of latitude
sure you are
you're looking parallel to a line of latitude
the sun isn't on the surface of teh earth though, so the question doesn't make much sense
yeah i know
id love to see this done with someone who owns a plane
how would taht accomplish anything
that's off teh ground you'd get all turned around
yeah idk
well if north is always towards the north pole, and east is 90 deg clockwise from taht
then the lines you have drawn in that image aren't along an eastward path
they START pointing that way, but then they turn
