no thrust = no movement of the rocket
rocket works in atmosphere because it has stuff to push off of and its designed to work in this medium
it doesn't work in a vacuum
let me try to simplify everything, gas coming out of the chamber has to hit a medium to be propelled?
it has to push off of nitrogen gas and stuff it finds in the atmosphere
or the ground
hmm, you know propellers right?
with nothing to push off of, its not going to propel itself forward
how does the force from pushing off the air go to the rocket?
they push air
propellers are moving air around to create lift
yes
or propel a submarine in water
the usually pull the aircraft through the air
because it has a medium to push
they aren't going to work in a vacuum either
because there is no medium
a prollor on a ship pushes the water
exactly
yep
not significantly different enough to push itself in a vacuum
a propeller requires a medium to push in order to create lift
you need to be traveling by some other method, like light sails or something that works in that medium
you know that flies cannot fly in a vacuum
when you eject alot of stuff very quickly through a small area is creates thrust
someone put flies in a vacuum and tested it
it didnt fly
🍿
appearantly they can survive but they cannot fly without enough atmosphere
rockets dont use wings or propellors though
its a 3rd way to generate kinetic energy
rockets have some stabalizors
they aren't flapping wings though which would create lift
...
we can't survive in a vacuum too
mind if i do a quick run through on rockets and you tell me what you find wrong kevin?
go ahead
alright
we know how propellers work, by pushing air or another medium
but rockets use a different method to generate thrust
