Oh, okay... I'll have to look into that again...

2020-05-04 05:29:39 UTC

What did the 4k run you?

2020-05-04 05:30:38 UTC

APX 7000 with vhf and uhf range 1 and the FPP option is ideal. Or an APX 8000 with vhf/uhf full/and 7/800.

2020-05-04 05:31:05 UTC

I traded an XPR 5550 vhf mobile for it, so I’d say about $500ish

2020-05-04 05:31:54 UTC

I priced out a 6k a while back just for shits and it was like 2500 or something

2020-05-04 05:32:14 UTC

Was just wondering if the uhf only stuff is cheaper

2020-05-04 05:32:27 UTC

But that also was with the software

2020-05-04 05:32:58 UTC

Our software for the CP200's was like 800 bucks 8 years ago

2020-05-04 05:33:34 UTC

My 7000 xe was $2400, brand new sold out the back door of the federal depot haha

2020-05-04 05:33:44 UTC

Lmfao

2020-05-04 05:33:58 UTC

Software is all online so pirate copies are easily obtained

2020-05-04 05:34:30 UTC

And I have depot level software so I can activate all required features without paying for them

2020-05-04 05:35:02 UTC

Do you know if the encryption is on the non 700/800 models? I know you're not supposed to use it on 500, but ya know....🤷‍♂️

2020-05-04 05:35:30 UTC

Oh, I guess that would be software locked huh?

2020-05-04 05:35:37 UTC

You can use it on any freq the radio is capable of. We run aes 256 on FRS all the time lol

2020-05-04 05:35:45 UTC

😂

2020-05-04 05:36:13 UTC

Okay, maybe I'll have to look into a few of the lower end models again

2020-05-04 05:43:38 UTC

There’s a lot of surplus XTS 5000 out there worth grabbing

2020-05-04 05:44:12 UTC

Was just on ebay... lots of 4k 400-512's out there for 500-600

2020-05-04 05:45:01 UTC

Would just need a programming cable and NATO wired PTT for my peltors

2020-05-04 05:45:24 UTC

Yeah and that

2020-05-04 05:45:28 UTC

...

2020-05-04 05:45:50 UTC

That’s nice because these radios are meant to work with all that hot shit operator gear like peltors

2020-05-04 05:46:07 UTC

So adapters are easy to find and work properly

2020-05-04 05:46:35 UTC

Yeah, I have some specialty gear made for the baofengs to work with all that

2020-05-04 05:47:02 UTC

Amplified PTT and vest mounted antenna

2020-05-04 05:47:31 UTC

The up side is we use kenwoods at work and I use my peltors there too, so same PTT

2020-05-04 05:47:31 UTC

:barf

2020-05-04 05:47:45 UTC

Yeah, but they work 🤷‍♂️

2020-05-04 05:48:11 UTC

I had 150 Motorola CP200's until a few years ago

2020-05-04 05:48:22 UTC

So do Hi-Points but nobody is telling people to buy them in the armory lol

2020-05-04 05:48:30 UTC

When I sold them that's when I was looking at buying a couple APX's

2020-05-04 05:48:49 UTC

Cp200 has been a workhorse for awhile in the business world

2020-05-04 05:48:53 UTC

I mean, think what you want but they work

2020-05-04 05:49:08 UTC

But even Motorola makes the distinctions between business radio and mission critical radio

2020-05-04 05:49:18 UTC

Yeah, but I've destroyed more 200's than uv-5r 😂

2020-05-04 05:50:16 UTC

Yeah, I'm probably gonna grab 2 of these 4k's

2020-05-04 05:50:24 UTC

I don’t think ‘work’ means what you think it does haha. How’s the desense from nearby transmitters? How’s the spurious emissions that are wasting your output power?

2020-05-04 05:51:01 UTC

That two pin mic connector is no where near water resistant, it’s a funnel to pour water straight onto the internal pc board

2020-05-04 05:51:07 UTC

Yeah, but most people never notice that stuff

2020-05-04 05:51:16 UTC

“The more you know”
