it was like some lovecraft horror

2017-06-25 20:21:29 UTC

just bloody brown pudding

2017-06-25 20:21:45 UTC

of varying degrees of brown

2017-06-25 20:21:57 UTC

I see the line at McDonald's

2017-06-25 20:22:10 UTC

it is disconcerting

2017-06-25 20:24:29 UTC

lol

2017-06-25 20:24:58 UTC

everyone else either has pellets mixed with blood from their hemorrhoids and diverticulitis or they spray taco bell diarrhea

2017-06-25 20:25:08 UTC

nobody has normal soft shits like a horse

2017-06-25 20:25:19 UTC

well, I do, normal retards do not

2017-06-25 20:25:28 UTC

I'm not a food prude but it's real hard to chuff down fast food

2017-06-25 20:25:39 UTC

duly noted

2017-06-25 20:26:00 UTC

the problem is their burg

2017-06-25 20:26:12 UTC

well, actually literally everything about the american diet from top to bottom is the problem

2017-06-25 20:26:16 UTC

but their burg obsession is not helping

2017-06-25 20:39:35 UTC

I'm starting to really dislike belting

2017-06-25 21:43:16 UTC

@fallot I've been doing the visualization/guitar exercise and it's yielded some good material, but I noticed some things in the process

2017-06-25 21:43:20 UTC

go on

2017-06-25 21:44:24 UTC

the first thing I noticed was that when I visualized something, played guitar until it was in accord with the vision, then played it for my wife, it made her visualize quite similar things. There's something universal going on there

2017-06-25 21:45:37 UTC

Also while trying to capture a feeling in notes, I noticed that many commonly done things actively get in the way of that

2017-06-25 21:46:18 UTC

like you can start with a little riff that evokes some meaning, then technically within the scale and existing rhythm you could add a whole bunch of other bells and whistles that are technically okay, but add no meaning

2017-06-25 21:46:46 UTC

I concluded that doing that only serves to dilute what meaning is actually there, and resolved not to do it ever even if it means sounding sparse

2017-06-25 21:47:28 UTC

I realized that almost 100% of the music written for popular consumption regardless of genre is music for music's sake, aka meaningless fart noises

2017-06-25 21:47:59 UTC

if I started adding bells and whistles for the sake of trying to make my thing sound "neat," I would ultimately end up with a pop rock chord progression as the logical conclusion of it

2017-06-25 21:48:17 UTC

if I repeated the same "lol cool sound!!!" process on a synth I'd end up with fartstep

2017-06-25 21:48:24 UTC

it's all identical in spirit if not in form

2017-06-25 21:49:00 UTC

I also realized how dumb it is to repeat anything unless absolutely necessary. You don't write a good paragraph in a story and then say "lol this is good" and copy paste it 5 times, that would be retarded. Yet, that's industry standard

2017-06-25 21:49:24 UTC

it's so that the next drive by listener on the radio can tune in and not miss much

2017-06-25 21:49:56 UTC

which is the same error, essentially, adding things to the song that don't add meaning

2017-06-25 21:50:41 UTC

but there's more to it there - it necessarily means that the most condensed version of the music on the radio could be the verses and just one repetition of the chorus, which would be like a minute long. The format limits the amount that can be expressed in it

2017-06-25 21:51:05 UTC

that's the gist of what I figured out

2017-06-25 21:51:45 UTC

I think repetition is very important in music

2017-06-25 21:51:53 UTC

well, it /can/ be

2017-06-25 21:52:15 UTC

a reprisal of the same thing an carry a different meaning

2017-06-25 21:52:29 UTC

the material already being played making a different context

2017-06-25 21:52:45 UTC

so a verse played is different from a verse repeated after a verse and chorus

2017-06-25 21:52:55 UTC

good point

2017-06-25 21:53:01 UTC

same chorus, different context

2017-06-25 21:53:07 UTC

evolving theme

2017-06-25 21:53:15 UTC

compounding meaning

2017-06-25 21:53:31 UTC

I know the answer of "what is good music?" isn't in simple vs. complex

2017-06-25 21:53:47 UTC

and for bells and whistless
