I am still bothered by the term POWER METAL

I dont really recognize it

Power Metal seems to be the late bloomer heavy metal acts that wanted to narrow down the search to find their search

WE ARE POWER METAL, ONE OF THE FEW IN OUR GENRE

as if Heavy Metal was too vast for them to compete in, POwer Metal created an even further reduction of HEAVY METAL

I think it's defined by a focus on a certain set of lyrical themes and typically features a lot of either synths or orchestral elements (or both) that it uses to tie the music to the themes

the problem for me with that kind of stuff is that lots of it seems to use the orchestral shit as a crutch to tie music to themes and they just write bad music and rely on spergs who like dragons to buy it anyway

Also, in the early 80's these terms were tossed around and coined by bands that do not fit into them by today's standards

Bathory is now called PROTOTYPE METAL by the well informed. I accept DEATH METAL and BLACK METAL to describe their music
