Powermad are worth the mention too

2017-08-06 01:26:15 UTC

I could not get into that

2017-08-06 01:26:33 UTC

It went backburner after 1 or two listens years ago

2017-08-06 01:27:03 UTC

I am still bothered by the term POWER METAL

2017-08-06 01:27:11 UTC

I dont really recognize it

2017-08-06 01:27:43 UTC

Power Metal seems to be the late bloomer heavy metal acts that wanted to narrow down the search to find their search

2017-08-06 01:27:54 UTC

WE ARE POWER METAL, ONE OF THE FEW IN OUR GENRE

2017-08-06 01:28:32 UTC

as if Heavy Metal was too vast for them to compete in, POwer Metal created an even further reduction of HEAVY METAL

2017-08-06 01:29:22 UTC

I think it's defined by a focus on a certain set of lyrical themes and typically features a lot of either synths or orchestral elements (or both) that it uses to tie the music to the themes

2017-08-06 01:30:22 UTC

the problem for me with that kind of stuff is that lots of it seems to use the orchestral shit as a crutch to tie music to themes and they just write bad music and rely on spergs who like dragons to buy it anyway

2017-08-06 01:30:49 UTC

Also, in the early 80's these terms were tossed around and coined by bands that do not fit into them by today's standards

2017-08-06 01:31:04 UTC

Bathory was being called Death Metal.

2017-08-06 01:31:07 UTC

yeah

2017-08-06 01:31:13 UTC

Venom was being called Black Metal.

2017-08-06 01:31:18 UTC

that i wouldnt disagree with at the time

2017-08-06 01:32:12 UTC

Bathory is now called PROTOTYPE METAL by the well informed. I accept DEATH METAL and BLACK METAL to describe their music

2017-08-06 01:32:35 UTC

Father to both genres

2017-08-06 01:32:50 UTC

> the problem for me with that kind of stuff is that lots of it seems to use the orchestral shit as a crutch to tie music to themes and they just write bad music and rely on spergs who like dragons to buy it anyway

lmao

2017-08-06 01:33:18 UTC

Yeah modern "POWER METAL" is very deeply rooted in gimmick

2017-08-06 01:33:44 UTC

DO NOT FORGET . Pantera : Power Metal

2017-08-06 01:33:50 UTC

it really is bad music + fake strings section and possibly a chick singer

2017-08-06 01:33:50 UTC

yeah... dragons, magic, vikangz and shiet

2017-08-06 01:33:58 UTC

gimmicky term from the early 80's

2017-08-06 01:34:12 UTC

and VIKINGS are not gimmicky

2017-08-06 01:34:35 UTC

current listening: Bell Witch - Bails of Flesh

2017-08-06 01:34:42 UTC

vikangs

2017-08-06 01:34:53 UTC

Bell Witch's album with the black and white cover is amazing

2017-08-06 01:35:02 UTC

agree

2017-08-06 01:35:02 UTC

Pantera failed horribly at making money as a Glam band, decided to rip-off Exhorder and Prong and sold it as something new.

2017-08-06 01:35:16 UTC

I really like the sample they use from Vincent Price's Masque of the Red Death

2017-08-06 01:35:54 UTC

I do not recognize POWER METAL as a legitimate or worthy contribution to METAL.

2017-08-06 01:36:11 UTC

It would seem it gained more steam near the end of the 80's

2017-08-06 01:36:27 UTC

we will build a wall and power metal will pay for it

2017-08-06 01:36:36 UTC

a time when genrefication was exploding

2017-08-06 01:37:00 UTC

And yes, I forgot Crimson Glory.

2017-08-06 01:37:01 UTC

Again, for me, most power metal is just heavy metal or speed metal.

2017-08-06 01:37:12 UTC

Crimson Glory is great HEAVY METAL

2017-08-06 01:37:15 UTC
2017-08-06 01:37:40 UTC
