the climbing stuff is new, but I did the towel thing hard for years and now I have like 14" forearms

2017-08-06 19:38:21 UTC

I'm considering one of those rock climber boards or some of the "iron mind" gripper squeezer things because they have a clear progression

2017-08-06 19:38:46 UTC

but the towel thing sounds cheaper and just as good if you put the effort in so now I'm thinking that might be the answer

2017-08-06 19:38:53 UTC

it's cleaner than a bucket of crap too

2017-08-06 19:39:25 UTC

great grip is a huge advantage in BJJ

2017-08-06 19:39:42 UTC

yeah?

2017-08-06 19:39:56 UTC

I suck at bjj, but once I get my FYM I will start doing it many times a week until I am good

2017-08-06 19:40:13 UTC

Yeah, but just holding on to grips while training is a bad idea because it can really fuck up your hands

2017-08-06 19:40:26 UTC

like gi grips? yeah I could see that

2017-08-06 19:40:52 UTC

because when people yank out of grips it creates micro-fractures in your bones that eventually degrade the joints and cause arthritis (is my nonmedical understanding)

2017-08-06 19:41:12 UTC

maybe

2017-08-06 19:41:21 UTC

well RA is autoimmune

2017-08-06 19:41:32 UTC

I guess it depends which kind of arthritis

2017-08-06 19:42:36 UTC

I don't know what kind. I just know people who play a really grip-focused game for a long time end up with a lot of hand-joint pain and bulbous fucked up knuckles

2017-08-06 19:42:39 UTC

my main worry would be getting fingernails mangled

2017-08-06 19:42:56 UTC

interesting

2017-08-06 19:43:32 UTC

but the way to avoid that is to just not hang on to grips pointlessly

2017-08-06 19:43:37 UTC

and

2017-08-06 19:44:01 UTC

strengthen your hands with a regimen that doesn't have the same impact risk

2017-08-06 19:44:15 UTC

I think anyway. there's not any science on this that I'm aware of lol

2017-08-06 19:44:21 UTC

I've found both grip and calves to respond really well to volume

2017-08-06 19:44:34 UTC

it makes sense, fat people have huge calves and guys who work with their hands 8 hours a day have sick forearms

2017-08-06 19:44:51 UTC

yeah blue collar guys in bjj are a nightmare

2017-08-06 19:44:57 UTC

I bet lol

2017-08-06 19:46:07 UTC

in fact I would want to spend an entire year working hard on grappling

2017-08-06 19:47:45 UTC

I really like it. I've been going a lot and seeing a lot of improvement. I do it with the pajamas and also without.

2017-08-06 19:48:02 UTC

I'm planning on competing after another 6 mo or so

2017-08-06 19:48:31 UTC

it provides a good framework for applying strategic thinking on the fly

2017-08-06 19:48:34 UTC

I'd want to do both

2017-08-06 19:48:52 UTC

I figure jeans or dress pants with belts would approximate the pajama bottoms, and any heavy jacket would be the top

2017-08-06 19:49:41 UTC

Yep

2017-08-06 19:50:25 UTC

Our club has a couple high speed wrestlers and one ex-pro mma guy, so I get pretty decent cross-training

2017-08-06 19:51:34 UTC

there's a decent core of guys who are intense and focused about it and training with them i've found really helps cultivate and encourage a mental intensity and focus

2017-08-06 19:51:47 UTC

yeah I'd like that environment

2017-08-06 19:52:11 UTC

I feel a crew of MMA spergs would be good to test ideas on

2017-08-06 20:09:53 UTC

I am so happy every time there are IRL altright skirmishes

2017-08-06 20:13:20 UTC

maybe I need a pull up bar

2017-08-06 20:13:39 UTC

what is "SWPL"

2017-08-06 20:14:49 UTC

Stuff White People Like

"Conclusion

A group of 20 some activists was able to stop an entire parade of fags and freaks. This was a modern day Thermopylae moment if ever there was one.

The freaks could have rushed Nordic Youth and trampled them through sheer force of numbers. But they didn’t. They were scared stiff by the resistance they encountered. If this incident demonstrated anything, it is how fragile the freak mafia is. All it takes is just a handful of good men willing to put their foot down and say “not one step further” to stop the whole damn circus in its tracks.

If you needed any more proof, here it is. A small, but dedicated corps of activists can move mountains… And we’ll have a lot more activists at Charlottesville on the 12th. Join us and join in the fun."
