some new Ihsahn stuff
is an unsuccessful exploration to me
Leprous
basically all djent lol
Gorguts sometimes verges on failure
Yes, but that tells you the how of the music, not what the music is about. The point of music is to say things, it makes most sense to categorize it on the basis of what it says. Technical bands like Immolation and Suffocation have much more in common with less technical bands like Pestilence and Autopsy than they do with Necrophagist and Spawn of Possession...etc.
I totally agree
I'm just saying that some bands who to me don't seem to have a decent artistic vision
still attempt a lot of musical complexity
and that is a certain flavor of uninteresting to me
Most good dm bands eschew pop structure, tech bands like immolation and suffocation aren't at all unique.
Yes, because musical genres now are meaningless niches.
Like porn genres.
haha
and fantasy literature
And half of them are only superficially distinguishable from pop.
No matter what the genre says.
my ultimate point is that I am enjoying the immolation album because I feel like it is musically interesting enough to not bore me as I listen actively
but I also have a good emotional-musical reaction to the music itself
Most of what calls itself metal is pop or punk or noise in disguise.
that doesn't fail
i even like a lot of their later stuff
but like sections of songs or whatever will bore me
like some of the latest single
some of Colored Sands
but remember these goys
once in a while they find an okay riff but mostly just dull
that Dodheimsgard album is horrible, even worse than their industrial stuff @UOC
yeah but it's "avant-garde" or whatever
while The Faceless is your usual mallcore but this time trying too hard to be technical
yeah
they both lack a really compelling artistic statement
unlike Here in After
yes, it's mostly style and barely any substance
what is Tomi's real name
no idea
@Nester what does technical mean?
