You aren't using a VPN service provider
If you use a reputable VPN provider that is located in Sweden, theres a giant list of users using the same IPs.
No one can therefore say "I know Polygon is using X ip because 100 other people could be using it"
But if he uses his own VPS
"I know Polygon is using X IP and ONLY X IP because he owns the VPS"
And this does not even mention the bandwidth concern
Owning your own server does not guarantee privacy at all and usually makes you less private
Unless you have a need for a dedicated IP

If you need a dedicated IP, just setup a VPN on your home router.

Perform a trace - it will say Digitalocean or whatever provider

I think it depends on whether you want your own IP or if you want a shared IP
If you want your own external IP to use just get a VPS and I don't see a disadvantage to privacy from owning a dedicated IP
