out of interest what are your reason for people having the ability to own a semiautomatic rifle over a bolt action?

Here, in the UK, farmers and hunters are allowed single rifle firearms to hunt I think? But they more resemblance low powered sniper rifles, bolt action etc. I don't understand why those kinds of guns aren't the mainstream gun and all others are banned
