if flight happened with things of constant mass on a flat plane then the linear model would be the only one that existed, but no. linear is used for approximate calculations and for local testing. those documents are for a glider, testing a glider with minimal fuel in a local flat earth environment taking out the earths rotation. that isn't a final copy its a test and a model as the abstract says itself. PERIOD.
