Seasons are decided by the amount of average daylight there is

When you have 12 hours day 12 hours night you have an equinox

The seasons obey a sine wave relationship

At the height of summer the amount of change of day will peak and be slow to change during the Solstice where you will have the most amount of daylight

The equinox is when the amount of daylight is changing the most per day

Then you have a winter solstice with the fewest amount of daylight per day
