Yeah, I read a leak (after I beat the game) that said the reasons for the delays weren't so much rewrites, it's cause the porting of the game from their special made PCs to PS4 and XBox One was a pain.

I really hope a "Final Mix" / "Director's Cut" version comes out in like 2 years so they have time to do everything they wanted to do (It's been done several times before in Final Fantasy, and Square is banking on XV becoming their next hit which seems to be working, so there's literally no reason not to keep developing it and rerelease it like it was supposed to be in 2018 or so.)

like, for example, the Omen trailer was supposed to highlight Noctis being blinded by darkness (which was still mentioned in-game but was clearly supposed to be expanded upon) along with his propensity for sleeping (actually going into another realm, which is why he was exhausted when waking up. This is seen in the Luna scene but nowhere else, but set up in Brotherhood strongly suggesting late stage rewrites)
