I do believe so

2017-07-13 17:39:16 UTC

rip

2017-07-13 17:39:24 UTC

How much does it say in Windows?

2017-07-13 17:39:43 UTC

I don't have my HDD yet so I can't check that

2017-07-13 17:39:44 UTC

if he doesn't have a powercord, how do you expect him to check in windows ?

2017-07-13 17:39:45 UTC

😄

2017-07-13 17:39:54 UTC

It'll come in tomorrow

2017-07-13 17:39:58 UTC

I didn't realise he wasn't using it

2017-07-13 17:39:58 UTC

Oops

2017-07-13 17:40:24 UTC

is that a craptop or a desktop ?

2017-07-13 17:40:29 UTC

Desktop

2017-07-13 17:40:53 UTC

can you check directly the ram sticks just to be sure they are indeed 2x 2GB ?

2017-07-13 17:41:28 UTC

The heatsink/cover plate does say do

2017-07-13 17:41:38 UTC

I'll make a picture

2017-07-13 17:41:46 UTC

is that compatible with your mobo ?

2017-07-13 17:41:57 UTC

Yes

2017-07-13 17:42:10 UTC

what chipset is your mobo just to be sure?

2017-07-13 17:42:36 UTC

Chipset.. Can you give an example of one

2017-07-13 17:42:54 UTC

I don't know, p67 is a pretty old one 😄

2017-07-13 17:43:06 UTC

it's usually in the name of your motherboard

2017-07-13 17:43:14 UTC

Ohh right

2017-07-13 17:43:46 UTC

The board is an asus p5q

2017-07-13 17:43:54 UTC

for example mine is a x99

2017-07-13 17:44:48 UTC

hmm p45 chipset should be fine if you use the right DDR2 sticks with the right freq

2017-07-13 17:44:52 UTC

2017-07-13 17:44:58 UTC

DDR 2

2017-07-13 17:45:46 UTC

can't see the freq of those, let me check the reference just to be 100% sure

2017-07-13 17:46:26 UTC

2017-07-13 17:47:13 UTC

yeah PC2-8500 it's fine

2017-07-13 17:48:04 UTC

I was thinking about running an os off a USB to check how it would look like in the system

2017-07-13 17:48:08 UTC

hmm it's gonna be hard for you to test... it's either a hardware issue with your ram sticks or your mobo (try to change the slots if you have extra ones)

2017-07-13 17:48:26 UTC

or it could be a firmware issue too but the chances are pretty low

2017-07-13 17:48:50 UTC

the thing is, DDR2 is pretty anciant now and are expensive for what they do

2017-07-13 17:49:18 UTC

I saw

2017-07-13 17:49:43 UTC

But this motherboard doesn't go above that so it's all I have for now

2017-07-13 17:49:44 UTC

there's several tests like "memcheck" that are provided with most linux distro livecd / usb

2017-07-13 17:50:06 UTC

you could probably check that but I don't know if that will be of any uses

2017-07-13 17:50:36 UTC

yeah I know, and if you change your mobo you basically change your whole PC...

2017-07-13 17:52:13 UTC

my statement was more like if you could buy another ram stick to check if it's the mobo or not

2017-07-13 17:52:40 UTC

or if you have extra DDR2 compatible sticks arounds (friends or whatever)

2017-07-13 17:54:26 UTC

but as I said, they are pretty expensive due to their age
