see McLuhlen
the ultimate point is power in politics, the role of media only counts toward that goal
for this context
McLuhlen?
excuse me Mcluhan
"The medium is the message" and Postman after him
IF you want to look at movies, take it back to when teh British were using them to sucker us into WWII
then you go walk it forward and look at them in general for each era of politics
for the current context however, the main issue is when the Evangelicals began their major campaign to lock in power inside the Republican party, an all-in strategy
I have no idea. But I will put my claim that entertaintment has favored a left leaning(culturally speaking) push for the past 10-15 years.
And in society in large - From letting 8 year old be promoted as drag queens to allowing transitioned men compete in their sportfield.
I dont see this as isoltaed incident but as push that is promoted by the left.
And the "Right" following
They cynical used abortion as a motivating issue because normally their flock were not going to go along wtih the 'billionaire favoring' legislation that Reagan was for etc
just a few year s after
brb
10-15 years is not even a generation, the pushback from the left caem from the culture war the Evangelicals started
this is like analyzing a football game from halftime on and ignoring how one team pulled out ahead
basically, just because you START a war, doesn't mean you WIN a war. but if the goal is to change 'domestic' politics, they succeeded, until recently
I dont know about evangelicals in the republican party.
I am talking in broad strokes what I see around any entertainment media. I really don't know where you are going with that statement.
You, as a 38 year old, doesn't see the strong push in entertainment? Where it almost has to have a strong social progressive undertone.
the right is fighting a culture war inside its ranks right now
If you don't know about evangelicals in the republican party, you don't really know what we are talking about
Yea I see your points of institutions like entertainment and society adopting "left" leaning ideas such as homosexuality, however its not an all-in left pushing era we are in. Homosexuals, women in power, people of color having higher attention, all of this has been a common occurrence for the past several decades. It may look like its some left leaning push, but its all mainly for profiteering off of the trends in society
Like if it didn't get as much attention as it does now, do you think anyone would care if there was a gay person playing James Bond for example?
no one would change their minds on watching it
but since its become such a hot issue, people will talk about it, or even watch it just because he's gay
i think the anti-sjws are not sensitive to how sensitive THEY are
which makes the memes write themselves
@E2D2
Exactly, once it was unthinkable And one day it might be a pedophile, that today is considered impossible
They're not trying to implement a message, they're just using the people to make profit
I don't think you understand
would having a pedophile as James Bond make a profit as an example
the politically consequences are 'base mobilization' strategy because 'the right' cannot use economic policy since people are not going to explicitly vote against their own interests, if they know better
do you think radical right, rightists, conservatives, liberals, socialists, etc. would want to see something like that and support it? @kotten
that has been the situation since Reagan, whom chopped off the top end but then put in SocSEc income taxes
@E2D2 I have no doubt that the culture could change so much that they would. We've had such socities in the past.
that's why the Myth of Reagan has to be upheld as well
why they support him so much
they need to use him as an icon because the real details are 'horrifying'
It is unthinkable now, But so was having homosexuals as starts 100 years ago.
it actually wasn't
exactly, that's the okie doke we are talking about
