you have to practise so much, to attempt it fully

Good combat systems to learn;
-Basic/advanced hand to hand: krav maga
Krav maga goes from basic hand to hand to advanced weapons use (ie: knives, long weapons, firearms, etc.) and covers everything from 3rd party protection to fighting underwater.
-Grappling/throws: BJJ
Brazilian jiu jitsu is utilised by both military and law enforcement around the world, wether theowing someone to the ground or *being* knocked to the ground, grappling is a good way to do it, just know not to take every single fight to the ground.
-knife fighting: Libre/Reaper system.
Developed by prisoners in south america, libre is a no-nonsense, down and dirty, kill-the-other-guy kind of system, it'll teach you how to deal damage to a big motherfucker with only a knife smaller than your pinkie finger. This system is essentially a "kill or be killed" type of thing.
Wether you plan on hunkering down by yourself or with a group, it's a good idea to keep in shape even after SHTF. Though space may not be present or available, what with all the raiders looking for some poor asshole to pillage, rape ot kill. Prison style exercises can definitely help you with that. Calisthenics and cardio in a small cramped room is made possible by prison style workouts.
