there're more chokepoints in your home and it's *your* home, a place familiar to you

2020-02-08 21:37:24 UTC

I feel like the former has more options for movement than the latter though

2020-02-08 21:37:43 UTC

oh fuck I forgot about police dogs

2020-02-08 21:37:46 UTC

entirely

2020-02-08 22:14:40 UTC

If you're researched you cant really do a lot

2020-02-09 05:48:54 UTC

yeah except for the part that youre in one spot and immobile, and they will know where you are and can starve you out

2020-02-09 05:49:19 UTC

wheras the socalled infrared drone wont be able to find you if youre smart and know how to go outdoors

2020-02-09 05:49:40 UTC

you can go ahead and change youre post to only bug out if you have outdoors skills and if youre a NEET then stay in the basement

2020-02-09 18:53:08 UTC

Explain this

2020-02-09 20:45:38 UTC

@Dad mylar and regulation of body temp also breath. but those infrared cameras aren't good enough yet to differentiate between human and animal at a distance. they mainly look for campfires

Thinking about investing into a police scanner

2020-02-10 19:27:32 UTC

@Ann Hiro probably a good investment. Easy way to get intel during a disaster even if other comms are down

2020-02-11 06:39:45 UTC

i wouldnt because theyre programmed to your area and you can just google the frequencies and put them into a baofeng to listen

2020-02-11 18:38:30 UTC

does anyone do ham radio or whatever is popular now? how does one get into it?

2020-02-11 19:38:44 UTC

Best way to start I'd guess would be a scanner. See if radio is useful for you.

2020-02-11 19:38:56 UTC

Conceivably, in the event of emergency, Radio is one of the first things up.

2020-02-11 19:39:36 UTC

It's easily the best way for people to communicate quickly.

Still to spendy

2020-02-13 15:58:35 UTC

I need to find the article, but a variation of these were being used EXTENSIVELY in the Hong Kong protests after cell service got blocked

2020-02-13 15:58:55 UTC

oh yeah it's spendy but I thought it was interesting regardless

2020-02-14 04:23:17 UTC

what zip code do you live in?

2020-02-14 04:24:05 UTC

https://hamstudy.org/ is good to start. you can find find a free test near you and likely also a class if you want

2020-02-14 04:24:26 UTC

do the flash cards for the technician class license until you have them pretty much memorized

2020-02-14 04:24:46 UTC

and heres a class

2020-02-14 08:21:25 UTC

thanks guy! i was talking to a friend at work and he's interested in getting into ham radio too.

2020-02-15 22:24:12 UTC

its better if you have a friend you can do it with
