Will do next time

2020-02-24 10:03:58 UTC

do all radios have to be registered? I'm planning to buy a small radio for a shtf kit

2020-02-24 15:22:43 UTC

Idk about registered but to use it you need a license

2020-02-24 15:22:50 UTC

But that’s for USA

2020-02-24 15:23:45 UTC

You need a license for specific frequencies

2020-02-24 15:24:20 UTC

HAMboomers will report you if you aren’t licensed

2020-02-24 15:24:21 UTC

can they track who's who in those frequencies or can you just lurk and listen in?

2020-02-24 15:24:54 UTC

you can lurk

2020-02-24 15:25:23 UTC

They can't track shit unless you transmit

2020-02-24 15:25:39 UTC

that's what I'm aiming for

2020-02-24 15:26:24 UTC

Start with something like this

2020-02-24 15:26:47 UTC

Lets you learn about what you're doing while you're doing it.

2020-02-24 16:48:36 UTC

would a walkie-talkie do the job in a shtf scenario where i have my buddy across town?

2020-02-24 16:51:16 UTC

get a $25 baofeng

2020-02-24 17:01:01 UTC

nice, just looked it up and they distribute where i live

2020-02-24 17:01:24 UTC

srsly joining this discord was a better investment then watching hours of prepping channels on yt

2020-02-24 17:01:53 UTC

based and whitepilled honestly it was

2020-02-24 19:25:36 UTC

get a ham radio license

2020-02-24 19:25:41 UTC
2020-02-24 19:35:20 UTC

Free men don't ask permission. SHTF licensure won't mean shit anyways

2020-02-24 20:16:14 UTC

a license while the grid is still up is useful though, just so you don't get v& for practicing your radio skillz

2020-02-24 20:19:07 UTC

vampersand

2020-02-25 08:07:30 UTC

@UncleDrMrBaby the purpose of getting the license is to know what youre doing instead of being a ding dong with a poochang radio that bleeds 5 mhz and has like 1 mile range on a good day

2020-02-25 20:13:59 UTC

The Baofeng uv 860 was just released. It should be exactly like the original uv 5r, same price, same performance, same everything but a few things have improved

2020-02-25 20:14:29 UTC

It can be charged directly, the battery is 50% larger and you can charge it without a charging stand. Thats it.

2020-02-25 20:15:20 UTC

So I recommend you get that (22$ shipping included) and a cheap 2$ nagoya NA-771 antenna

2020-02-25 20:20:23 UTC

Some other baofengs claim to be higher wattage - thats a plain chink lie. They do not perform better. Also a "triband" baofeng will be useless - Nobody uses the additional 220-260MHz range and itll be plaqued by distortions from digital tv and uncomprehensable digital intereference of every kind.

2020-02-25 20:21:52 UTC

22???

2020-02-25 20:21:55 UTC

dude thats fucking nice

2020-02-25 20:21:57 UTC

what does it do exactly

2020-02-25 20:22:02 UTC

If you want to make international or worldwide communication you will a transceiver for the lower frequencys (30mhz) as they bounce of the ionosphere and thus over the horizon and around the world. The ubitx is the cheapest option starting at 100$. It can be operated from a 12v battery

2020-02-25 20:22:21 UTC

@Pepito Well you speak into it, the signal is send out as a 4w fm signal

2020-02-25 20:22:52 UTC

Gives you 10-100km range depending on the severity of obstruction
