@Soup Can Sam you don't understand

2020-04-28 16:34:52 UTC

A common argument is roads for.ancaps, but for.libertarians how do you manage for example the transport industry

2020-04-28 16:35:00 UTC

Planes boats and other transports

2020-04-28 16:35:20 UTC

Or manage the building codes of dams Bridges and tunnels

2020-04-28 16:35:33 UTC

im not an anarchist lib

2020-04-28 16:35:43 UTC

Please don't conflate me with an ancap, I believe in a central government that has legitimate control of certain systems

2020-04-28 16:35:45 UTC

Who decides what ought to be put in place, who controls what is accepted as code?

2020-04-28 16:35:50 UTC

I know

2020-04-28 16:35:53 UTC

more like, government intervention is necessary but should be kept to a minimum

2020-04-28 16:36:12 UTC

like in instances where someone's rights are being infringed upon

2020-04-28 16:36:18 UTC

What I stated was ancaps can get talked to about roads, but for yours it's more.about overall standardization

2020-04-28 16:36:30 UTC

ahhh

2020-04-28 16:36:33 UTC

my mistake

2020-04-28 16:37:07 UTC

I don't quite understand the argument here, there are still standards for quality, the standardization comes from genuine competition kept honest by regulation

2020-04-28 16:37:21 UTC

As a libertarian you likely don't want publically funded firefighters as that is a market to be met and even if you do, the houses each individual built can be so unique from the other that fire hydrants may not be available within reasonable distance

2020-04-28 16:37:22 UTC

Consumer protection is very important for actual competition to drive innovation and improvement

2020-04-28 16:37:35 UTC

oh, no i do <:dogekek:618610136830967849>

2020-04-28 16:37:48 UTC

@Soup Can Sam depends on what type of competitiveness you want

2020-04-28 16:38:05 UTC

but im from a quite left wing country so im considered to be more libertarian here than other places

2020-04-28 16:38:05 UTC

No, I understand the necessity of publicly funded institutions that markets can't improve or support

2020-04-28 16:38:11 UTC

I personally like new technologies and not consumer goods that make things slightly easier

2020-04-28 16:38:29 UTC

New tech doesn't always have a market

2020-04-28 16:38:36 UTC

Right and innovation is driven best by competition

2020-04-28 16:38:41 UTC

^

2020-04-28 16:38:42 UTC

Especially in tech

2020-04-28 16:38:47 UTC

I see it as reasonable to think markets don't always guide you one the right path

2020-04-28 16:38:54 UTC

No it's not always

2020-04-28 16:39:03 UTC

The problem is that tech doesnt have enough competition, huge companies have huge oligopolies on tech systems

2020-04-28 16:39:23 UTC

How do you dismantle a monopoly as a libertarian then

2020-04-28 16:39:24 UTC

but with cases like valeant/philidor government intervention is definitely necessary

2020-04-28 16:39:27 UTC

Which is why you need a central government to come in with a hammer and break these cooperative systems up

2020-04-28 16:39:32 UTC

yes

2020-04-28 16:39:34 UTC

Its a unification of ideas

2020-04-28 16:39:38 UTC

limited but necessary

2020-04-28 16:39:40 UTC

I'm not an absolutist

2020-04-28 16:39:46 UTC

Ok you're not the libertarian I'd thought of

2020-04-28 16:39:53 UTC

I chose libertarian as a tag because it best represents my social viewpoints

2020-04-28 16:39:58 UTC

same lol

2020-04-28 16:40:09 UTC

But because labels are bad, I always have to clarify that I'm not a total economic libertarian

2020-04-28 16:40:11 UTC

Ok that's cool

2020-04-28 16:40:19 UTC

Idk what I am
