The highest hit demographics based on current data is 52 and up rather than just the elderly. Not to defend the US's response, you should never arrest people for going outside
However, it seems that this virus is more contagious and more fatal than the Spanish flu, and with a CFR rate at about 3% average with modern medicine that's pretty goddamn awful
It's understandable that we wouldn't want to freely let it spread asymptomaticly over the years and continuously cull thousands of people
