are waterproof socks viable?

2020-04-02 16:12:43 UTC

Waterproof socks....

2020-04-02 16:12:44 UTC

What

2020-04-02 16:12:48 UTC

Like overboots?

2020-04-02 16:12:55 UTC

no there’s like

2020-04-02 16:13:00 UTC

His pount kyu is nothing is absolutely water proof

2020-04-02 16:13:20 UTC

And waterproofing shouldn't be the main focus, it should be fitx comfort, versatility

2020-04-02 16:13:30 UTC

Because those alleviate a wet foot

2020-04-02 16:13:36 UTC

Correct me if I'm wrong

2020-04-02 16:13:37 UTC

Oh that's what you meant. If you want your feet to turn to mush then sure

Merino wool socks are literally the only sock option.

2020-04-02 16:13:46 UTC

hm ok

2020-04-02 16:13:48 UTC

And def merino

2020-04-02 16:13:55 UTC

This man knows what he is talking about

2020-04-02 16:13:57 UTC

Goretex is good for winter boots

2020-04-02 16:14:14 UTC

Winter doesn't always mean Canadian blasted wasteland moonscape cold

2020-04-02 16:14:18 UTC

Sometimes it's wet

2020-04-02 16:14:34 UTC

You don't want wet shit and wet boot from stepping in a puddle then temo drops

2020-04-02 16:14:36 UTC

yeah it gets real bad here

2020-04-02 16:14:37 UTC

And you lose your foot

2020-04-02 16:14:42 UTC

We have bipolar weather

2020-04-02 16:14:48 UTC

Due to the altitude and mountains

2020-04-02 16:15:04 UTC

So like snow can start melting the same day or the next and it’s always muddy as shit

2020-04-02 16:15:16 UTC

It just snowed last week

2020-04-02 16:15:18 UTC

The instant it's reliably above ~10C I would always switch to a dry weather boot

2020-04-02 16:15:39 UTC

Goretex is still fine in colder temps like that but it's just more comfortable

2020-04-02 16:16:12 UTC

so in conclusion, next boot purchase will not be goretex boot

2020-04-02 16:16:34 UTC

It's a hard call

2020-04-02 16:16:45 UTC

Ultra lite hikers swear by goretex boots

2020-04-02 16:17:02 UTC

But they're normies who avoid anything that would be dangerous or otherwise extremely uncomfortable

2020-04-02 16:17:08 UTC

Like fording rivers or some shit

2020-04-02 16:17:28 UTC

I might be alone in this experience, but the American made Keene boots (specifically the durands) have proven to be extremely versatile in inclimate weather hot and cold.

2020-04-02 16:18:11 UTC

I've always had better experiences with getting wet feet sooner into the 2 day rain storm then drying within an hour of it letting off than getting soaked feet half a day in and then needing to strip the boot off and dry it for 2 hours

2020-04-02 16:18:14 UTC

Salos are based but I've gone through the speedlaces twice already and it's not like I do anything really hard either

2020-04-02 16:18:23 UTC

hm

2020-04-02 16:18:32 UTC

I haven't heard good things about the speed laces yeah

2020-04-02 16:18:38 UTC

They're great until they wear out

2020-04-02 16:19:16 UTC

@Smart Car Driveby actually yeah, it took forever for my goretex boots to dry after I had been stuck out in the rain last time I was in Florida

2020-04-02 16:19:30 UTC

like it was bad and they smelled rank for a while afterwards

2020-04-02 16:19:39 UTC

Because for water to move through goretex it has to be water vapor basically
