but the US shouldnt rely on foreign countries on things like energy
Well sure, you produce more, but there's vulnerability is what I've been trying to say
yeah that is true
Global trade is generally a boon, though
i remember trump brought up something important when talking to germany
But it does have drawbacks
Ideally completely free trade, without tariffs, would be in place...
he was discussing how germany wants to be tough on russia, but they rely on 70% of there energy from russia
To maximize these advantages
Tariffs are only really important when industrializing, otherwise it's just a tax on your own consumers
and yeah, there's an issue with fossil fuel reliance
We need to transition to nuclear ASAP
but yeah a big problem with this is 80% of US medication iirc relies on china
But free markets 'n' all
The vulnerabilities are generally worth the advantage
I know it's still far off but a lot of people are making accusations that he tried to monopolize the vaccine in development and I’m trying to find some more info because it doesn't sound right
Who trump ?
yes
there were a couple articles on Reddit about how he allegedly approached a German lab who is developing the vaccine and tried to purchase it and prevent them from selling it to other countries
to monopolize it
it doesn't sound right to me but I can't find any other info and a couple people have brought it up to me with a smug expression and I’ve had nothing to say in return because I don't know anything about it
was hoping some people here may have more info
I feel like they misrepresented the "exclusive licensing to America bit" in that the idea was probably him assuring the German companies that they wouldn't try to cut into their European distribution plans but idk tbh that's my personal interpretation of the vague wording behind it
that makes more sense
thank you for your input, honestly I know nothing about this sort of stuff and don't know where to start,so this at least gives me something to think about
What economic school of thought do you think line up here the best?
Laissez-faire economics is the only valid school tyvm
trump is a protectionist
Personally I fall toward Chicago-School
Of course, I don't *quite* know as i am a stupid teenager
Check out the Austrian school @tposedan good stuff there
Emphasis on von Mises
Any recommended authors? I've read only like two books on this stuff so far
ah ok
Man, Economy, and State - Murray Rothbard
gotcha
For a new liberty - Murray Rothbard
The road to serfdom - Frederich Hayek
I read that
