i'm down to read it lol

2020-03-17 17:04:30 UTC

76 percent of Americans live paycheck to paycheck. 51 percent of that says they can’t afford an unexpected $500 bill

2020-03-17 17:04:46 UTC

Many of these people are middle class Americans.

2020-03-17 17:05:19 UTC

Sucks for them. People lose in Capitalism. It's the price we pay for... Not being in gulags

2020-03-17 17:05:35 UTC

i could see liquidation of welfare being more of a conservative idea that reduces overhead and government spending.

2020-03-17 17:05:37 UTC

I guess I just have a different mentality and that’s ok

2020-03-17 17:05:38 UTC

There are winners and losers

2020-03-17 17:06:03 UTC

Ok but we’re all humans and we should help each other. Especially if an idea will bring us ahead economically

2020-03-17 17:06:10 UTC

I’d actually be interested in a study of eliminating welfare

2020-03-17 17:06:20 UTC

Our GDP is being carried by giant tech companies right now

2020-03-17 17:06:46 UTC

Yes that’s humans help each other through non profits churches etc not government involvement

2020-03-17 17:06:58 UTC

People should be dependent on people, not the government. "Welfare" should be charity, not a human right

2020-03-17 17:07:06 UTC

You never count on government for that

2020-03-17 17:08:03 UTC

liquidation of welfare is not the same as ubi too.

2020-03-17 17:08:22 UTC

See that’s the main difference between Lou and others Lou wants government to decide and I don’t

2020-03-17 17:08:32 UTC

I don’t want government to decide

2020-03-17 17:08:52 UTC

I’d be good with ridding ourselves of welfare in general probably the worst thing USA has done

2020-03-17 17:08:57 UTC

But we might as well use the government for something useful. Did you guys know DC is the richest city/state in the country?

2020-03-17 17:09:26 UTC

All these politicians becoming millionaires while the average middle class American continues to lose

2020-03-17 17:09:29 UTC

gee i wonder why

2020-03-17 17:09:54 UTC

So instead of arguing we can fix it. Why do you think the government would never support UBI many of them are funded by giant tech companies.

2020-03-17 17:09:54 UTC

Off our taxes dude

2020-03-17 17:10:14 UTC

well theyre funded by us.

2020-03-17 17:10:34 UTC

I would argue you can even get rid off income tax through Value Added Tax

2020-03-17 17:11:01 UTC

@lou777 is the average middle class American better off now than they was 10-20 years ago?

2020-03-17 17:11:26 UTC

Now with people being laid off with the corona virus?

2020-03-17 17:11:40 UTC

Still are they better off?

2020-03-17 17:11:45 UTC

Not this instant. But a few months ago yes.

2020-03-17 17:12:20 UTC

I would hope. It doesn’t change the fact that things will get worst in the future for a lot of middle class Americans

2020-03-17 17:12:22 UTC

😐

2020-03-17 17:12:37 UTC

Especially white Americans in rural areas. Coal jobs arent coming back.

2020-03-17 17:12:42 UTC

Middle class are always worst off to million/billionaires. But they still going to be better off than the last middle class generation

2020-03-17 17:13:13 UTC

Capitalosm is the best

2020-03-17 17:13:13 UTC

<:wtf:624684793455443998>

2020-03-17 17:14:30 UTC

Americans period are "better off" than the rest of the world. The bottom class of US residents is better off than most of the world. $20k a year puts you in the worldwide "1%".

2020-03-17 17:14:34 UTC

It’s ok if y’all think things will only get better. I’m fine with the future. I’ll have a job regardless of the outcome.

I just feel bad for all the middle class workers who will lose their job to automation and don’t have any skills or college degrees to get by

2020-03-17 17:15:20 UTC

Tbh it happens. People need to learn to save and stock up. As sad as that sounds

2020-03-17 17:15:24 UTC

I would assume many of you also have good jobs. I would assume some of you have college degrees. Maybe I’m doing too much by thinking of others.

2020-03-17 17:16:00 UTC

the problem isnt automation in itself. the problem we need to avoid is shocking the greater economy with changes it cant adapt to. automation with working class jobs needs to be a slow process.

2020-03-17 17:16:09 UTC

me too stoopid cuz i have no degree

2020-03-17 17:16:18 UTC

Thinking of others is great. Giving the government responsibility to care for them is not.
