2020-04-20 05:17:42 UTC

S&P500 futures markets don't really close either

2020-04-20 05:17:56 UTC

Investment and trading markets Elite

2020-04-20 05:17:57 UTC

they have brief pauses. technically they "close", but it's brief

2020-04-20 05:18:07 UTC

all the futures markets are like that

2020-04-20 05:18:11 UTC

I just hate waiting the weekends

2020-04-20 05:19:33 UTC

in this very last minute, the S&P500 e-mini futures (/ES symbol) just traded a volume of 64. minutes 1 and 2 before that were 107 and 188. a few minutes earlier it was 386. so it's low volume right now and has sporadic volume spikes

2020-04-20 05:19:48 UTC

ES are the most popularly traded sp500 futures

2020-04-20 05:23:12 UTC

@Vin_Farren by comparison, friday market actually had more volume in the 1 minute before open than the almost all the rest of the day (per minute)

2020-04-20 05:23:53 UTC

volume in that minute was 21728. on opening minute, it was 11186

2020-04-20 05:24:09 UTC

Jesus fuck

2020-04-20 05:24:27 UTC

I imagine they have apps for it too? My access to a computer is limited

2020-04-20 05:25:15 UTC

yeah, but in the minute just before close, day traders who were bag holding all sold their short positions and probably lost money. they pumped the market up in that last minute and had a volume of 64643

2020-04-20 05:25:43 UTC

the market was short most of the day. so they probably had FOMO and took shitty entries

2020-04-20 05:26:18 UTC

@Vin_Farren yeah. different brokers have different ways to access them. i use TD Ameritrade and use ThinkOrSwim. lemme show you

i zoomed in on the last few minutes of the day and first few minutes of aftermarket trading. you can see that the volume just dies, even though markets are open

Interesting

2020-04-20 05:29:12 UTC

it says partially delayed data in the upper left, but that's because my contract to trade futures/forex/commodities hasn't been approved yet

2020-04-20 05:29:25 UTC

once it is, i'll get realtime quotes like i do on equities and options

2020-04-20 05:30:42 UTC

that's just one of the screens. i don't keep a lot on it yet. i only want to trade a single instrument atm, but i do plan to have about 2 views on the instrument at a time (zoomed out 1m candle chart) and a zoomed in 1m candle chart. maybe 5m during lower volume times
