That and The EU army terrifys me. It would only be effective against its own member states

2018-10-01 02:45:53 UTC

But is it a PS90?

Bullpup knives are better for close quarters combat

2018-10-02 02:26:14 UTC

Needs scope

2018-10-02 07:57:52 UTC

@Khanclansith @Atkins You mentioned buying a not cheap AR-15. What are things to look for in buying an AR?

2018-10-02 07:58:14 UTC

Is there a set of accessories everyone uses?

2018-10-02 08:14:52 UTC

Does it work

2018-10-02 08:15:09 UTC

Does it take a 30 round magazine

2018-10-02 08:15:13 UTC

That's it

2018-10-02 08:15:21 UTC

Dont fall into the meme

2018-10-02 08:55:38 UTC

I should ask what meme you'd be referring to.

2018-10-02 11:39:08 UTC

@pratel I think I said there's no beating an AR except with a fancier AR. there are tons of options and customizations but which you choose will depend on what you are trying to achieve and what your personal preferences are. the possible configurations are endless, which is a big part of the reason why ARs are so dominant.

2018-10-02 11:39:44 UTC

the 'meme' he was referring to would be guys dumping thousands of dollars into a rifle for marginal or non-existent improvement in functionality.

2018-10-02 11:40:23 UTC

Oh, so like people do when they build desktops and spend hundreds on lights.

2018-10-02 11:40:44 UTC

So what do you think is worth having on a rifle for the apocalypse?

2018-10-02 11:42:54 UTC

well, i severely doubt you are going to be getting into any pitched battles (that you would survive), and I severely doubt you are going to be performing any sort of assault upon a defended location. mostly a rifle in a SHTF situation is for personal defense. shooting a lone bad guy that surprises you, or suppressing a group you stumble across so you can run away.

2018-10-02 11:43:32 UTC

therefore sustained fire and long range fire are not particularly important. heavy profile barrels are therefore unnecessary weight.

2018-10-02 11:44:17 UTC

speaking of unnecessary weight, since you're going to be carrying this thing and rarely (if ever) using it, keeping it light is important. you want to keep the amount of shit you have hanging off it to a minimum.

2018-10-02 11:48:12 UTC

if you can afford to purchase a decent rugged optic, then you may as well use it. most militaries these days use optics by default and iron sights are kept only as a backup (if kept at all).

2018-10-02 11:49:19 UTC

optics are a place where you don't want to cheap out though. there are cheap chinese clones that lack durability. scratched lenses and moisture seepage are problems.

2018-10-02 11:49:44 UTC

i've seen scratched ACOGs but i've never seen a scratched ELCAN.

2018-10-02 11:50:12 UTC

not saying ACOGs aren't good, but just passing on my experience.

2018-10-02 11:50:28 UTC

you don't want anything that needs batteries, especially CR123 batteries.

2018-10-02 11:53:26 UTC

by law the minimum barrel length you can have without registering the rifle as a SBR is 16". you can have a carbine gas system, a midlength gas system, or a dissipator gas system. i think midlength is the most popular these days. gives you a bit more real estate on your quad rail (if you choose to have one).

2018-10-02 11:55:01 UTC

another thing to consider is if you want a traditional direct gas impingement system, or a pistol system.
