A few days ago I said I was gonna end up replaying this in a few weeks. With mods, damn this still looks passable today, especially for it being a ~10 year old game.
Also why are there no other games like it? The formula can't be *that* hard to copy, right?

so that's not a firearm

Black powder firearms (such as that caplock) still count as firearms. However they are not regulated like most other firearms. IIRC you can buy them anywhere without a background check and get them delivered straight to your doorstep, things that are (outside of specific circumstances) illegal for any other firearm.
