etc

2018-11-09 18:42:47 UTC

an EMP definitely can't go beyond visual targeting

2018-11-09 18:43:02 UTC

but it can disrupt an incoming missile

2018-11-09 18:43:10 UTC

or use flares for that

2018-11-09 18:43:39 UTC

and the best part is if you are protecting your base form that hypothetical missile you can have all the electricity you need as weight isnt a problem

2018-11-09 18:44:06 UTC

wut

2018-11-09 18:45:48 UTC

its easier to have an electronic anti missile system on your base then on a tank right?

2018-11-09 18:46:23 UTC

it kind of doesn't matter if you fry an incoming missile that's a mile or two away if it's some fuckhuge missile you deploy against a BASE of some kind, it'll still keep going mostly straight and then it doesn't really matter if it's a few dozen yards off target

2018-11-09 18:46:54 UTC

you can mess up the targeting system

2018-11-09 18:47:00 UTC

not with an EMP

2018-11-09 18:47:20 UTC

maybe make the electronics overheat

2018-11-09 18:48:07 UTC

you can fry vital components bricking it's electronics, but you can't magically hack it

2018-11-09 18:48:31 UTC

i think we can in the coming years

2018-11-09 18:48:40 UTC

everything is getting automated

2018-11-09 18:48:48 UTC

you can already hack pacemakers or cars

2018-11-09 18:48:54 UTC

reeee that's not how hacking works

2018-11-09 18:49:08 UTC

well then how does it work

2018-11-09 18:49:10 UTC

yes because those are connected to the open internet and have pisspoor security

2018-11-09 18:49:35 UTC

it is literally impossible for the best hacker in the world to hack my laptop now

2018-11-09 18:49:47 UTC

because I have it off to the side, not connected to the internet

2018-11-09 18:49:50 UTC

there is no access point

2018-11-09 18:50:16 UTC

but then what is guiding your missile

2018-11-09 18:50:19 UTC

no way for a hacker to get in, short of physically entering my home and plugging something in

2018-11-09 18:50:34 UTC

Onboard computing and targeting technology, I would presume.

2018-11-09 18:50:39 UTC

a simple algorithm (AI) and raw sensors

2018-11-09 18:50:50 UTC

valid point

2018-11-09 18:50:52 UTC

With how much a missile costs, a couple thousand dollars in sensors and electronics isn't really a factor.

2018-11-09 18:51:15 UTC

thats right missiles do cost an actual fuck ton

2018-11-09 18:51:22 UTC

for example an IR camera, a computer, and a program that says "point missile towards brightest glowing bit"

2018-11-09 18:51:41 UTC

amraams go for what 300000 dollars imagine buying it of "the black market"

2018-11-09 18:52:45 UTC

idk what you would do with an amraam

2018-11-09 18:52:57 UTC

shoot it with bullets?

2018-11-09 18:52:57 UTC

but wouldnt that make it very susceptible to being misled

2018-11-09 18:53:08 UTC

that's why planes use flares

2018-11-09 18:53:18 UTC

yes so we are back at 2018

2018-11-09 18:53:19 UTC

and why missiles use as many backup systems as they can squeeze in

2018-11-09 18:55:22 UTC

"if IR feed isn't clear, rely on UV", "if UV feed isn't clear, try sensing plane's magnetic fields", "if NO feed is clear, estimate range to target, if range is less than 50m, detonate anyways and hope for the best otherwise deploy parachutes"

2018-11-09 18:56:03 UTC

GPS, too. not for an anti-air missile obviously but for ground targets

2018-11-09 18:56:07 UTC

even better idea let childeren from chinese factories fly those rockets not susceptible to flares dont cost alot and are still guided

2018-11-09 18:56:19 UTC

million dollar idea here

2018-11-09 18:56:26 UTC

Japanese did that
