the video content will still be from YT

2018-05-24 15:44:43 UTC

@Grenade123 No one can compete with YT, It runs at a massive loss. The only way to take a share of the market would be for Amazon or such like to get involed.

2018-05-24 15:44:45 UTC

so then the site serves no purpose

2018-05-24 15:45:13 UTC

you make a site that tells people to go to youtube

2018-05-24 15:45:15 UTC

why

2018-05-24 15:45:23 UTC

>aggregator

2018-05-24 15:45:30 UTC

to FIND what they want to watch

2018-05-24 15:45:42 UTC

because YT is shitting on it's own platform on that matter

2018-05-24 15:45:45 UTC

which means that youtube sucks doing that

2018-05-24 15:45:54 UTC

which means there is room in the market to provide a better method

2018-05-24 15:46:03 UTC

of aggregation yes

2018-05-24 15:46:07 UTC

of another platform, no

2018-05-24 15:46:13 UTC

why not?

2018-05-24 15:46:31 UTC

@Poppy Rider said it. Because you will be burning money for a decade

2018-05-24 15:46:34 UTC

here is a question, if youtube runs at a loss, WHY do they have?

2018-05-24 15:46:41 UTC

monopoly

2018-05-24 15:46:46 UTC

on lost money?

2018-05-24 15:46:49 UTC

just like Uber

2018-05-24 15:46:53 UTC

just like Facebook

2018-05-24 15:46:56 UTC

just like Twitter

2018-05-24 15:47:00 UTC

this is nothing new

2018-05-24 15:47:11 UTC

Tesla too

2018-05-24 15:47:32 UTC

Facebook only started to make money _AFTER_ the IPO

2018-05-24 15:47:33 UTC

you just listed successful companies, (maybe minus tesla), then cited a failing company as being the same

2018-05-24 15:47:43 UTC

oh, you mean it just takes too long to start making money

2018-05-24 15:47:48 UTC

yup

2018-05-24 15:47:55 UTC

okay, new question. how did youtube start in the first place

2018-05-24 15:47:57 UTC

Uber still operates on a loss

2018-05-24 15:48:03 UTC

google didn;t always own it

2018-05-24 15:48:19 UTC

you need to look into that

2018-05-24 15:48:26 UTC

because users == money

2018-05-24 15:48:36 UTC

so they get investors

2018-05-24 15:48:42 UTC

but never make any profit

2018-05-24 15:48:45 UTC

until the endgame

2018-05-24 15:48:54 UTC

the investors foot the bill

2018-05-24 15:49:39 UTC

you have no idea of the costs of video content. Hell, even if you wanted to host JUST _your_ videos, it costs a LOT

2018-05-24 15:50:02 UTC

I don't think YT can make money, ever. And be completely free. Far to much server space. The reason Google keeps YT is for the collection of data. It is a gold mine for any AI project. If you get something for free your are the product.

2018-05-24 15:50:48 UTC

why does it cost money? what is the overhead? server space, and a webface, right?

2018-05-24 15:51:06 UTC

Google would keep YT even if it didn't make money ever, because it makes money on their other products

2018-05-24 15:51:06 UTC

and the people to maintain that

2018-05-24 15:51:32 UTC

traffic costs alone are huge
