anyone shoot shotgun slugs regularly?
I got a strange idea
most slugs suck dicks through smoothbores
and I was thinking, how to cause spin stabilization with zero rifling
What if I modified the "wadding" base to make it spin as it's going down the bore?
or even, how could I reliably do that?
I was thinking if I made the wad two pieces, one half being technically a gas delayed blowback
that was on a literal screw
You have two pieces for the base that attaches to the slug, one which is the bottom that is extremely oversized, above 2mil or so
that has a "Screw" in the center
And gas ports
@CastleBravo taser shotgun shell has an idea to kinda do that. think of the slug like a small missile. https://o.aolcdn.com/images/dims?quality=100&image_uri=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.blogcdn.com%2Fwww.engadget.com%2Fmedia%2F2007%2F07%2Ftaser-xrep.jpg&client=cbc79c14efcebee57402&signature=581fab9407c01c5d3c4b5b6a2a94d755e51ce896
then the base that attaches to the slug itself
with an inside threaded hole that the screw goes into
and the slug and wadding would not be super oversized, maybe exactly at bore size
so the gas would fill this "Chamber"
and it would want to expand
and it'd twist (if the forces can be made to align correctly)
then it would spin
that looks like it's fin stabilized
which is a totally different and even more painful beast
spin is super easy if you can get it to work right
I just like loading 12ga
it's super easy and there's a lot of room for mistakes
I don't see the need in dedicating a shotgun to shooting slugs (i.e. rifled barrel)
and the rifled chokes only work with some things consistently, not all things
so if I could design a gas delayed wadding that can kinda work and provide enough stabilization to give consistent 2moa groups at 100 out of a smoothbore
that'd be fuckng amazing
my worry is that you need to counter the weight of the slug in the bore
it is self propelled and shot out of a normal shotgun
otherwise the bottom would just spin
I don't think a 3d printer could make something that'll do this right
maybe I could try it on lower pressure loads initially
I wonder how I would be able to simulate shit like this
Fluid dynamics and physics
warez solidworks or some shit
lol
What a debacle. This is what happens when you put Sweden in charge of a game.
