As much as people complain about the games all being the same the games did a good job at adding new mechanics each gen

every game changed the competitive scene quite a bit

I just didn't like what the competitive scene became with gen 5 onwards

Gen 4 was the last great pokemon meta imo

I think from best to worst I'd rank White 2, Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire, Black 2, Platinum, Heart Gold, Y, X, all the ones I haven't played, GO, Moon, Sun

I liked gen 5 the best as long as you avoid OU

(also I don't do competitive so that isn't factoring into my rankings)

4 added the very best change though with the phys/special split. No question about that

the split was amazing

but the cancer that was weather teams plagued gen 5 imo

weather & baton pass was just objectively stronger than everything else in the game

I still say that megaevos while a nice attempt at bringing old pokemon into viability were a mistake. They brought too much focus onto a very small amount of pokemon to build your team around

then there was the spam dragons & steel types meta cancer that required adding the Fairy type to even fix

Pokemon *Bank* was more fun than Pokemon Sun

That was always an issue with those types being overpowered. It was an inevitability that as they added more every game it would be a problem
