Most people don't seem to be criticizing it for its predicted quality so much as for its unoriginal concept, its creators history, the video revealing it which had little info on the show itself, and for whether it has any good reason to exist given what they view as what should be Crunchyroll's other priorities
Calarts
If you had just shown me the picture of the characters and didn't tell me who was making it, or show me the reveal video I'd be interested in watching it even though it doesn't seem too original.
I will avoid that discussion, I'm tired of it
Anime fans aren't "cartoon fans"
the distinction exists because there's a difference
I don't even see that show as anime, I just see it as an American anime streaming site licensor diversifying into domestic animation.
there's shows that try to blend it a bit, like Avatar or RWBY, that are inspired by anime. They still aren't anime
Agreed. There is a fair amount of overlap which is where I am, but I can definitely understand why people who pay them for anime would be upset over Crunchyroll investing in that instead of in improving their service, or producing actual anime like Netflix has started doing
exactly
the new crunchyroll series i definitely wouldn't call anime, it just looks like an american cartoon
specially when they market as in "pay for this to save the anime industry"
and try to guilt trip everyone into paying
and while i don't go nearly as far as Geoff "steven universe is anime" Thew, i do believe that anime can be made outside of japan
Yeah, I've seen how a lot of their staff acts online towards people who dare to watch anime in ways they don't approve of and it's pretty humorous
That Guardian Spice thing looks very Steven Universe.
ways they don't approve of?
anime is anime because of distinct art and animation style, having one or the other alone doesn't make it anime
ergo that shit from crunchyroll can't be anime
They'll hound people on twitter for watching anime on pirate streaming sites despite that being how they started
well, the art and animation is one part of it, i would say there is more that goes into it than just that
broadly speaking
Yeah, there's more to it than that for sure. There's a lot of anime with unique art styles that most wouldn't think of when they think of as anime, but it's still anime
also i've got an interesting question that's strangely on-topic
is panty and stocking with garterbelt anime
Yes
Yes, duh
yea
why
It's Japanese animation
Is Avatar and Legend of Kora anime
And it follows in that tradition as well
No.
actually most of it was animated in the us wasn't it ?
And Steven Universe is animated in Korea, but it's not Korean
The lines are a bit blurred sometimes I’d say
Also the French make good stuff
Wakfu is a great not-quite-anime
Or as my friend calls it “bread anime”
Wakfu is my one of my faves
i mean, P&S is as inspired by american animation and culture as avatar is by japanese animation and culture
