Personally, I don't treat the term "anime" as a sacred cow since it is a term used outside of Japan to distinguish it from other animation, whereas in Japan it is used for all animation. But I will up hold as technical term to distinguish anime as a spicific subset of cartoons made by the Japanese (disregarding that they sometimes cheaply outsourced labour) usually for the Japanese primarily (even if it might not be exclusively). *I type slow*
anime is a western definition
PLOT
use it with the intent it was created for the west
Diddies
otherwise call them "cartoons"
I think when it comes to art that trying to make concrete 100% definitions to define and categorize is often futile and pointless
where is the line between comic and manga
More PLOT
Manga is written the opposite direction
Same as anime, made by the Japanese for the Japanese
there are korean comics you couldn't distinguish from japanesse by anything else but names of characters
would you consider them manga ?
Only ever read them on Webtoons
And tbh knowing that, that might be what Korean ones are considered idk
Ah
The more you knoooow
manga is japanese
manhwa is korean
comics is everything else
simple
There is also one for chinese comics.
no doubt, every (almost) language has word for comic
I sometimes say anime is Chinese Cartoons, or my personal favorite Mongolian Moving Pictures as a joke
my only point is. If a new term is used for a sub-category, don't reuse that new sub-category for everything else
there's no reason for people to call an american cartoon, **an anime**
Manhua for Chinese/Taiwanese comics.
yea I agree Belial
unless they are trying to profit from that group
with ill intent
Ultimately normies will call it whatever the first thing that comes to mind is tbh
Prefer referring to anime as "Japanese Children's Cartoons" as my joke name for it.
i usually just go with ching chong cartoons
Which is why Kill la Kill is my favorite Japanese Children's Cartoon.
Lol
