Didn't Toei basically only manage to exist because of pioneering extreme cost cutting methods at the expense of quality?
IMO, to emphasize
Plus anime's philosophy has mostly been to value quality & detail over simplicity & fluidity when it comes to animation.
if you want to watch old anime that's new just watch megalobox
I don
don't want to watch old anime, I want to watch good movies
well you're making the argument that old anime was better
so here's a 90's anime that was made in 2018
hm
that's...
not really the argument I'm aiming for, but I can definitely see that as being a projection of my argumert
Remember Speed Racer in the 60's? They don't make animation of that quality any more.
let me try to rephrase and summarize::
new anime, post say 1995, in general, isn't very good
All media in general isn't very good\
well what i'm saying is that pre-1995 anime wasn't very good either
things, in general, are not very good
Man, I have been turning into an anime amish man... I have been mostly reverting to watching pre-2014 anime. it is not like I do it for old anime elitism considering I watched Kekko Kamen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aOwKFaDUSKM
it's jsut that you don't remember the bad anime from that time period because it was so long ago
it sacrifices all the advantages it ever had, to the point where Western cartoons supercede it **generally** speaking
i would definitely disagree with that
western cartoons are, in general, very bad
So are a lot of anime.
i think in [current year] the only western cartoon that holds up when compared to anime is gumball
Anime is, in general, worse. <- Is my argument
I'm sorry Cwow but you really don't seem to know much about the history of anime
i watch a lot of anime, and always have, and i have never seen any decrease in overall quality of anime
90% of it has always been shit
worse by what standards?
Yeah, but when I was in middle school it was all so cool 😦
the real difference now is that these days 100% of anime reaches a western audience
I specifically chose the cutoff point in mid 90's, since you can definitely make the argument 70's anime is better than 70's cartoons
By the growing standards that come from not being a child anymore
80's anime better than 80's cartoons
when early 90's anime only ever left japan if it was already really successful
90's anime better than 90's cartoons... When viewed as a whole, looking at the entire industry... NOW you run into arguments
if anything i would say the opposite. western cartoons are what has seen a huge decline
while anime has remained fairly consistent in terms of overall quality
I could agree with that. It's nice that they're embracing continuous storylines, but most cartoons today really do suck in comparison to most of the 90's
There's still some quality cartoons though, but they tend to have some really weak parts to go along with the good
