Belial has some pretty funny ideas alright, a week or two ago he was convinced (and to my knowledge, still is convinced) that the main reason Discord is so popular is because it has free speech, not that it was marketed to gamers.
well.. most Discord servers aren't gaming related
including this one 😏
you got any proof of that?
this one being non-gaming is just anecdotal
let's start with my small set
18 servers, 1 is a Gaming server (and it's a mobile game)
right, more anecdotal evidence
you didn't join 18 servers randomly, you carefully joined the 18 servers you wanted
I'm looking into the top servers
less than half are gaming related
what's more, even if we look at the servers as they are now, it doesn't prove anything in relation to why/how Discord got popular (which was your original claim - that Discord got popular because of free speech, as Discord has been popular for quite a few years now and the userbase has had time to change without changing it's popularity)
don't back pedal full speed
are you afraid of data now?
and what's even more, the proof of a server being non-gaming related doesn't mean it's here because it values free speech, it could be here because Discord is a very good platform (which was my argument)
most servers are Youtube/Twitch-based. Communities centered on "online celebrities", not gaming
I'm pre-emptively poking holes in the most obvious flawed non-arguments I could see you coming up with in support of your statement
see, don't be afraid of the answer to the question you asked
Twitch is a gaming centered platform, where Twitch celebrities primarily are gamers
oh shit
but you redefined Gamer to mean something community related, not gaming related...
if most of the servers aren't focused on Gaming, why do you think gaming is the main factor of Discord's success?
nice strawman
we don't know most servers aren't focused on Gaming
I guess I won't waste my time on this if you are starting with strawmans
but even if less than most servers are focused on gaming now, when Discord got popular we do know Discord was heavily advertised to gamers, was mostly mentioned by gamers and talked about in the gaming community
and as I said last time, I believe the main factor of Discord's success is that it's a very good platform
the platform wasn't as good when it was launched, only pretty decent, but it was heavily advertised to gamers
but yeah, you got any proof of that?
were you using "discordbots.org" for your data?
Is this an actual argument happening here?
It ***is***
