I don't consider Kashubians Poles
And it's actually a sad thing Kashubians are pretty much dying out because of Polish language encroachment etc.
Same thing with Silesia
And Kashubians would flick you a middle one in that regard because they consider themselves as Poles.
Or rather integral part of the nation.
I'd have to ask them but their numbers are dwindling
My fiance is from there so I have first hand experience.
Well is she Kashubian herself
Yes. Born and raised.
Not just from the region. Does she speak the language and identify as Kashubian
Because a lot of the Poles that got expelled via Stalin ended up there
Which are not Kashubian
She never bothered to learn the language (like a lot of younger people) but she consider herself as Kashubian.
Funny enough other half of here family is from Silesia.
Makes sense she didn't learn the language then
Not a lot of younger people learn the language as I said.
Intermarriage is the primary reason dialects/languages die in favour of more standardized ones
Just looking at my own region Schleswig Holstein, the influx of displaced Germans severely harmed low German
Virtually everyone speaks high German now
If you didn't had grandparents that spoke it there was (after the ww2) very little little incentive to learn it
Regardless of how I feel about the current border I wouldn't want to proactively change anythign about it rest assured
Same.
All things consider I am quite happy we got back to essentially square one in terms of borders.
I wouldn't call Piast Polish borders as square one, but it's better to put up with it
That being said Russia's claim on Königsberg is a joke
And Kohl refusing Yeltsin's offer is unforgivable/outright treason
I'm not happy about this situation, especially because I have family from the border area and some Prussian ancestry
I've seen the contrast between Guben and Gubin, a German church which to this day nobody bothered to restore etc.
That's years of socialist/communist rule for ya and its effects.
It's not uncommon sight.
At least in smaller cities.
Anyway I wonder how Poles feel about their former eastern land and expulsion etc.
I primarily blame Stalin
Even Poles at the time thought of the Oder Neiße line as an unrealistic border
But Stalin insisted on for example Stettin going to Poland because of a port and whatnot
Depends who you ask. A lot of people simply don't care. There are some that do remember but doing enything about it is virtually impossible because everyone around us hate our guts (some for a good reasons and some just because). There is still re occurring issue of people who got resettled in the past forcefully to places like Siberia and they or their descendants would like to come back to fatherland but are usually too poor. Other than some occasional gesture there is not much done in this regard.
I used to really like rainbows when i was younger
