It seems like everyone in my family on my mom’s side died young but it was all from poor life choices. Smoking, heavy drinking, the like. I don’t know how good my genetics will be from there, but everyone on my dads side be living into their 90’s.

Birth control might be a big agree because knowledge about long term usage and side effects (both women directly and men indirectly) is not that wide spread knowledge. Most people take it for granted as something good.
I admit non abortive birth control in marrriage is one of my few major disagreements with the Catholic Church
It should be used with caution though. Afaik birth control has led to a number of divorces
My main reason for being on the fence about it is that it's *never* just used in marriage
