NOW
This isw here it gets tricky
Almost all states use a winner-take-all
Alright I'm listening
beside Maine
I'll talk about Maine later
Now in a winner-take-all system
It's whoever receives the most vote (not a majority, but a plurality)
IN a state
So let's take 2016 election
If Texas had 1,000,000 votes for Hillary Clinton
but Texas had 1,000,001 votes for Donald Trump
Texas give all of their 38 electoral votes to Donald Trump
Winner-takes-all
Damn
which is why popular vote doesnt matter
you can have 5 million californians bonus vote to your popular vote count
but their electoral votes will not be counted as strongly as someone from texas
Or Wyoming
exactly
Now for Maine
They use a joint-system
*split elector
whatever it's called and renamed nowadays
with split electors
It means your electoral votes are delegated proportionally
If half wanted Trump and half wanted Clinton
Nebraska also uses that
really?
nebraska as well then
and it's very interesting
Now if half wanted trump and half wanted clinton
then the state will *attempt* to delegate half of their electoral votes to trump and to clinton
and whoever has the most will get the leftovers ofc
Nebraska always has all go to republicans tho
so if maine has 3, then 1 will go to trump and 1 will go to clinton
however since trump had 3 more people voting for him than clinton
maine will use that remainder for trump
Interesting
Maine has 4
