So in other words whoever is running the software is storing parts of the information that makes up the service.

2018-05-18 23:29:00 UTC

precicely yes

2018-05-18 23:29:14 UTC

it works similar to bitcoin

2018-05-18 23:29:19 UTC

But this is proof of stake

2018-05-18 23:29:23 UTC

and bitcoin is proof of work

2018-05-18 23:29:47 UTC

although steem is mined. not Staked. techinically

2018-05-18 23:33:53 UTC

Am I required to run this software that acts as a node to use any part of steem, or only if I wish to get paid?

2018-05-18 23:39:11 UTC

@Dunk Massive
I'm a Green Party member, and have been called Alt-Right for being opposed to the intolerance and violence of Antifa.

@Grenade123 only if you want to be paid for being witness. you can be paid by just writing content that is good with your brain

2018-05-19 00:06:43 UTC

all you need to post is a web browser or desktop light wallet

2018-05-19 00:07:02 UTC

Vessel busy.org steemit.com dlive.io d.tube etc..

2018-05-19 00:07:36 UTC

i like to think of it as mining crypto with my brain

2018-05-19 00:08:38 UTC

for example, someone is running competition

2018-05-19 00:08:47 UTC

for the best article about wikileaks.

2018-05-19 00:09:00 UTC

prize is the guy will up for you 50-100usd on a post 😉

2018-05-19 00:09:03 UTC

so people up-voting your content is sort of like giving you a few bucks (that is a very simplified view of it)

2018-05-19 00:09:15 UTC

yes exactly

2018-05-19 00:09:28 UTC

they can gift you crypto or upvote with their Delegated stake weight (aka steem power )

2018-05-19 00:09:47 UTC

but an up-vote costs them nothing?

2018-05-19 00:10:31 UTC

yea cost them nothing. But they bought steem or earned it

2018-05-19 00:10:38 UTC

ANd powered it up into steem power.

2018-05-19 00:10:58 UTC

they acn power down it all and sell it all

2018-05-19 00:11:00 UTC

takes 90 days

2018-05-19 00:11:45 UTC

ill show u my account

2018-05-19 00:12:20 UTC

see you can see my voting banwidth, you can see voting power. you can see every action ive ever done

2018-05-19 00:12:28 UTC

transparent and on chain forever

2018-05-19 00:12:45 UTC

hold on, i'm trying to wrap my head around where the money, or more accurately value, comes from with up votes.

2018-05-19 00:13:40 UTC

from inflation with the creation of new steem

2018-05-19 00:13:54 UTC

new steem is created portion goes to witnesses

2018-05-19 00:14:04 UTC

other portion goes to content creator

2018-05-19 00:14:31 UTC

just like crypto is mined with ASIC miner, inflates the number of say DOGECOINs

2018-05-19 00:15:13 UTC

so kind of like new stock being issued

2018-05-19 00:15:16 UTC

@Grenade123 one of my friends is a developer she would probably talk to you

2018-05-19 00:15:25 UTC

she builds all kinds of stuff for steem

2018-05-19 00:15:29 UTC

from canada

2018-05-19 00:15:49 UTC

I can only explain it to a basic level she can explain it from the development level you see

2018-05-19 00:16:16 UTC

i don't really need a developer's perspective, i'm just trying to figure out where the value comes from. Since up-votes are free, the value doesn't come from the people paying you.
