Right now, Republicans are souring on academy.
It starts with a populist politician.
And then it shifts to some of the right wing organizations like the McMartin Center for Academic renewal who have already taken hard lines.
There was a professor at DePaul who frankly said he thinks the entire system needs to be destroyed completely.
I don't think he's going to take more of a hit than he already has.
But the right-wing base isn't willing to play hard ball and the politicians don't want to be called "facists"
This is going to sound trite, but maybe Jordan Peterson is the guy to organize this. Assuming one could shrink his head down to normal size once again.
Add to that the reality that bills the Republican lawmakers propose are generally pretty dumb, like mandating 50-50 registration (Indiana) are never going to actually work.
Peterson can't really do that though. It's too dirty for him to get involved.
He might say it's time to do it and add to the story of people cast out of the academies, but when it comes to actually issuing and carrying out threats his value is too dependent on being clean.
You said you needed a populist to get the ball rolling.
Like, he can endorse someone and then say "I don't necessarily agree with everything but this person has the right idea" but he can't be the one issuing demands himself.
@Atkins Yes. And not Trump. Trump is too busy courting controversy to actually do anything useful.
One thing I think would be interesting is seeing if Title IX could be used to split the funding of Women's studies.
You rally together a bunch of radical (probably left leaning) male students who play the social justice game and demand a men's studies department. Then argue Title IX requires all funds and resources allocated to helping women via the Womens studies progam must be matched.
This makes the women's studies program effectively 2x as expensive.
Useful right-wing populists who have ties to academia and a desire to tear the system down are pretty damned scarce.
And creates a natural counterweight to the feminists.
Useful right-wing populists...are pretty damned scarce
FTFY
Really, it needs to be grassroots.
The politicians come after the Unis are screaming for money and see there is energy.
How's it going to be grassroots if the place is 99% lefties
Obviously, Academia won't change on it's own.
Groups like GG need to step up their game.
We need more leaks.
More protests.
More baiting.
And the general population needs to be applying pressure.
The Blue-state U's and rich private institutions are pretty unapproachable. But you could force matters in a number of red states and with poor, dying privates.
Of which there are many.
Conservatives can't really even set foot on some campuses to start protests. Can't even have a speech in a rented hall.
Why do you think lefties chain themselves to trees?
They're shameless mental cases?
It works.
They get their message across. And they set it up so they look like the victims.
I'd just pepper spray them and leave them lol.
The victim and arrest part is the wohle goal.
Come back every few hours and re-apply pepper spray
You need to make enough noise and apply enough pressure to attract the press. Particularly the sympathatic press.
Press sympathetic to conservatives?
On Fox.
And there's some setups that just look bad or are hard to deny.
There's an op-ed I like that proposed the next time a right-wing speaker is shouted down, every libertarian, moderate or conservative student should then mob the next left-leaning speaker and chant "this is what you do to us" until they get removed by the police (and then be polite about leaving)
By making a clear demand and being voiceful it forces the issue and makes the demand clear.
Dude that's not going to play out the way you think.
