Understandable. I've been in the church basically my whole life. The idea of Non-belief is fairly foreign to me.

Yeah Im going to be there for him to help guide him, I cant imagine it would be particularly easy to get into mid-life. I was born and raised catholic, even went to catholic school up until 8th grade so that made it easy for me. I had plenty of time to learn about it

2018-06-01 20:44:54 UTC

The best thing I can suggest is just start by reading the bible & church history

2018-06-01 20:45:45 UTC

I'd recommend reading intelligent apologetics literature. Stuff that uses science to back up claims in the Bible. It's never too late to convert/learn about Christianity.

One source I personally enjoy reading is answersingenesis.com

2018-06-01 20:47:33 UTC

You're supposed to be able to ask them for their very technical documents if you're interested.

2018-06-01 20:47:57 UTC

Like the experiments that back up the claims.

2018-06-01 20:48:04 UTC

read a book about the crusades, too. Im reading Templars by dan jones right now. As devout as I am reading about the crusades inspires me and strengthens my yearning to serve the Lord

I'm out. Later and good luck!

Right to bear arms is in the Bible

2018-06-02 01:20:46 UTC

I really think that everyone kind of has an "irreligious" stage in their life where they "hate" religion, but they eventually come back to it once they realize their points against it were based on ignorance.

2018-06-02 02:34:14 UTC

not everyone

2018-06-02 04:03:55 UTC

I became Christian after meeting people that could talk intelligently about it and didn’t mind criticism.

@Victus Shmmidtt

We can move it here as you said.

2018-06-04 11:27:39 UTC

OK

2018-06-04 11:32:54 UTC

Where do we start?

2018-06-04 11:37:07 UTC

My issues with Catholicism are as follows:
>The Pope is infallible (And yes I know this belief varys among Catholics)
>The Worship of Mary as the Queen of Heaven and co-redeemer.
>Having a Priest Absolve your sin, because he is a man and not God.
>The exists of pergatory and the ability to "pray" your dead loved ones out of it by going to a priest and paying him to do it.
>Allowment of indulgences in exchange for monetary compensation.
>And praying to the statues of Jesus and Mary.

Mt issues with Protestant:
>Not zealous
>A lot of progressivism (depends on the church)
>A lack of dedication to the church.

As of now, I'm actually a Roman Catholic, but back at where I live, the Priests, etc. are outright horrendous, following the wrong agenda even.

2018-06-04 11:39:39 UTC

Speaking of which, even I've been there with the issues with Catholicism, but I've seen how Protestants, atleast alot of them have varying beliefs, watching a good bunch of them on Youtube, etc. was enough to make me say: "Fuck it, I'm out of here."

2018-06-04 11:43:53 UTC

You still there?

2018-06-04 11:48:27 UTC

Why are you even religious?

2018-06-04 11:48:35 UTC

Believe in yourselves, not God

2018-06-04 11:49:11 UTC

I'm still here @Yakumo Fukase

2018-06-04 11:49:36 UTC

Actually, I almost fell for being Agnostic.

2018-06-04 11:49:44 UTC

Even though I'm 16 LUL.

2018-06-04 11:50:06 UTC

I'm about to not be though because I'm about to walk on campus and I won't be able to respond.

2018-06-04 11:51:15 UTC

So say what you want to and Ill respond later.

2018-06-04 11:51:58 UTC

Alright, have fun.

2018-06-04 11:58:49 UTC

All in all, I once thought there was something wrong with the Catholic Church, whatnot with the doctrines and such [some of it.], couple it up with the fact of some peeps in the Catholic Church being wolves in sheeps clothing. However Protestantism as I saw was way worse off for me, they tend to have too different beliefs for each individual leading to dissonances in my mind. When I checked what's really the issue, I mean, God would only forbid something if it will cause something bad to happen to me like a sickness or sort right? [Too much drinking, smoking, etc.], but these "Individualists", with their absurd beliefs lead me to think there's not gonna be any solid foundation for me.

2018-06-04 15:08:53 UTC

Wow Victus... I feel the same as you do above. The modern Protestant Church does seem to suffer from progressivism which I feel causes the other 2 problems.

2018-06-04 15:17:33 UTC

I think the church would come back if parents acted as parents and taught their children the Bible. Instead we have this faulty thinking that the public school will teach our kids, or that an hour at church is enough for our kids to learn the Bible.

2018-06-04 15:23:34 UTC

There also needs to be more educated people in the church. There isn’t enough apologetics. We’re called to be able to defend the Bible, but it seems few people can even do that with basic Christian concepts.

2018-06-04 17:37:32 UTC

@Yakumo Fukase I understand your position. I think most people would have a better outlook on Protestantism if there weren't so many sects. The primary issue being most of those sects such as Mormons, Jehovah's witness, unitarian universalist, etc, which are all complete heresy, get lumped in with the rest of Protestants and the rest of us don't even consider them to be even Christian.

@Andrules The church preached the doctrine of easy believism from the 1960s to the 1980s and poisoned multiple generations. They believe that all you do is sit in a pew on Sunday and say you are a Christian and that is what makes you saved from sin. They also preached a false doctrine that Christianity is based on emotions and how you feel. Which is entirely untrue. God never said he was supposrd to make you happy and remove all struggles from your life, he said the opposite. He said that taking this path will be hard and you will be persecuted and tempted the entire way. Being a Christian is not acting like that rest of the world. Going with the flow is the wrong path. As a Christian you are to break from the normal flow of the world and follow God's path and you must strive continuously to stay on it.
