indeed
they have reached that critical point
I grew up southern baptist in southern Mississippi... I ate the bible daily. I was baptised and went to church and bible study and sunday school. I worked at the church for free and had first hand experience in the help that churches DO provide....
but you don't have to be part of a church to do a good thing, nor be commanded by a divine being to do good
You wont get your point made with straight attack. Just make them question themselves, otherwise they wont change their minds.
it's fucking common sense
When I say "I am atheist because I have read the bible" I wasn't kidding in the slightest... I followed blindly for YEARS ... and never actually read it front to back... only listend to the sermons and followed along.... then I read it in its entirety.... and was like "the fuck is this shit?"
Thats true, but witg religions you can separate black and white with authority.
you don't need religion to seperate your blacks and whites ๐
Then you are better than 95% of the christians. Coz in studies only 5% have actually read whole of the bible
You dont need, but you wont have to highest authority.
most atheists I know HAVE read it front to back and are atheists for the same reason.. the shit makes no sense
True, but the main thing you have to consider is if they understand what is being said.
liberal atheists, I fear, are tarnishing the name because it's a minority, so they are making it 'trendy'
Liberal Atheists are the vast majority of Atheists.
Or, should I say, Left-wonโt Atheists.
*wing
statistically that is probably true.. which validates my point of them tarnishing it
I don't actually mind individual Atheists.
atheism shouldn't be regarded as a political stance... but many, as proved by earlier converstation, are starting to do just that
My main problem is with Atheism as a larger group.
Nearly all atheists have bibles. They read them to mock christians, and I think thats a bit rude, but if you use the book to study & understand the otherside, then I am fully supporting you.
oh, one atheist won't agree fully with another just like one christian won't either.. both share the same concept of agreeing with the bigger picture but arguing over details
They do, but so do all Christians.
a secular nation probably wouldn't be any better than a religious one
In fact, I carry one around because I end up getting in debates with Atheists quite a lot.
A secular nation/society would not be much of a society at all.
that is your opinion
It would destroy itself through division or be condemned to authoritarianism.
there has never been a secular nation so you have no basis for comparison and only a hypothesis
republican spain?
Yeah, Republican Spain during the Spanish Civil War.
They actually perpetuated crimes against Catholic priests.
Well if you want to wipe out all religions, vote for commies, they have tried that many times ๐ค
People will be always creating new religions
You can't really stop that
Religion as a PERSONAL thing is fine. when it is forced, then its a problem
Its part of our psychology.
over time we may be able to overcome that
or at least, tame it
Lets say you take 50children from all of the nations, and then abandon them to random island for 20years.
When you come back they have invented their own religion
and they will hold fast to their belief and they will be the right one and all others will be blasphemy
