Most of the “new” churches I see are built in what looks like a metal storage building.

You may not consider Methodist to be Protestant...hell it's hard to consider them Christian...but they have some nice churches. Anglican/Episcopalian too

In the south there's some really old ones, my mom lives not too far from an old 1800s church still in use.

Sardis Primitive Baptist Church. I don't think the name is meant to be a parody. It may not be beautiful and artistic like a Catholic church but I like the simplicity.

We have a few others around just like it.

Little cemeteries next to them, still accepting new burials, with graves going all the way back to the early 1800s. Several Confederate veterans buried there

The local village was actually founded by Union troops though, who stayed here after the war

So at some point there was a small town with Union and Confederate veterans working alongside each other, doing business together, farming together, families intermarrying, going to church together etc
