that led to the death of 60 million people and etc

2018-09-21 17:33:12 UTC

Ah damn and then even looking at the main land today where people think its ok to poo anywhere

2018-09-21 18:44:55 UTC

He's basically right except that China did have firearms too. Just not exclusively the way European armies did. And there were certain warlords and factions that refused to use guns.

2018-09-21 18:45:40 UTC

Also noteworthy is that the National Revolutionary Army outnumbered the Workers and Peasants Red Army by about 5:1

2018-09-21 18:46:30 UTC

No you cannot shit in the street in China. You might see that in a remote village if a kid does it but it's not appropriate

2018-09-21 18:48:00 UTC

In WW2 it was the Republic of China, led by the socialist Kuomintang

2018-09-21 18:48:14 UTC

Or Guomindang depending on how you latinize it

2018-09-21 18:52:27 UTC

I am not an apologist for the CPC and my own in-laws were mistreated despite fighting for their country, but. In 1927 the KMT broke their alliance with the CPC and withdrew from Comintern. Then they killed up to 10,000 civilians they accused of communist leanings. The KMT fractured, basically a Nazi side and a commie side

2018-09-21 19:00:03 UTC

Wang Jingwei (president) sided with the left wing of the KMT, but betrayed his country to the Japanese. Close friend of Mao and other founders up until then. He was deposed by a warlord, swore allegiance to the new leader-Chiang Kai Shek

2018-09-21 19:00:26 UTC

A Methodist socialist with apparent Muslim sympathies since he had Hui generals in his army

2018-09-21 19:00:50 UTC

Hui are an ethnic group of China who are mostly Muslim, but they're not the same as the Uighur Turks from Xinjiang

2018-09-21 19:01:11 UTC

They actually have slant eyes etc like everyone else

2018-09-21 19:02:14 UTC

Wang and Chiang went back and forth. Wang resigned several times, Chiang wouldn't accept his resignation, they became friends again, then fought again etc

2018-09-21 19:03:17 UTC

Wang felt they were not modernized enough to defeat Japan, Chiang felt they could if given enough time to develop industry. Both were right in a way

2018-09-21 19:05:13 UTC

Ironically Wang wanted to join the Axis and sign an anticommunist treaty with them, while Chiang wanted peace with the Soviets

2018-09-21 19:08:27 UTC

They got along well enough to resist Japan. Had the Japanese not been busy fighting China, we may not have been able to beat them. They probably could not conquer all of China though, it's too big and populated

2018-09-21 19:09:08 UTC

The atrocities of the KMT were enough to provoke a popular revolution to overthrow them. The Japanese were far worse, and they would have stirred up a huge hornet's nest inland

2018-09-21 19:13:32 UTC

The part of China that Japan didn't get to had twice the population of the US at the time, 3/5ths of the entire country. They already couldn't keep order in the eastern parts

2018-09-22 08:18:04 UTC

The Chinese did have small arms, but they lacked in artillery, let alone having any tanks at all. Even in World of Tanks, the beginning tiers of the Chinese tank tech tree are either British and American lend lease, or captured Japanese tanks. It was only after Maoist takeover of China that they started to make better tanks, that too which were just Soviet copies.

2018-09-22 08:18:56 UTC

The Japanese still had a relatively better condition in terms of armour, and since they already had a lot of artillery, Germany broke its alliance with China in 1938 and formed the Tripartite in 1940.

2018-09-22 15:32:06 UTC

Tanks also aren't good for urban warfare where most of the major battles were

2018-09-22 15:32:52 UTC

Beginning of the war I think they had like 35 tanks in the entire army.

2018-09-22 15:33:38 UTC

Small arms were mostly LICENSED copies of German weapons

2018-09-22 15:34:20 UTC

Still available for purchase now, not in China of course
