Iā€™m new here, and thought that here I might get useful feedback on an idea.
Dys/Utopia is a world in which America has fallen victim to critical theory/social marxism.
In several short stories, I plan to show what could become of America, and how it will affect different people/professions.
For example, artists wanting to create masterpieces like Monet will now be looked down upon for splatters on a canvas.
Historians and writers have to constantly be changing the words they use, because they now mean different things. (Like the fact that in the SJW lexicon, rasicm is now power and discrimination, not just discrimination of race.)

How would this go, and would any of you read it?

2018-08-15 23:14:07 UTC

I'd read it

2018-08-15 23:16:57 UTC

I would too.

2018-08-15 23:24:36 UTC

Same

2018-08-15 23:36:00 UTC

Every short story will be narrated by another character:
An artist wanting an objective standard of beauty to return.
A writer struggling with what words to use and still be seen as good to the public.
A teenager deciding who to vote for, since the voting age would be lower.

2018-08-15 23:37:24 UTC

Iā€™ve got plenty of other ideas, but they tackle other parts of culture, religion, and politics, but may be a bit too graphic for readers.

2018-08-15 23:42:51 UTC

Spinoffs are a wonderful thing for those kinds of topics.

2018-08-15 23:46:28 UTC

I believe that some of the topics I want to tackle will alienate my readers.
The stories focused on Islam and abortion were to be seen through the eyes of a character who sees the world as a utopia. I personally do not see any good in those topics, but it may be too uncomfortable for readers.

2018-08-15 23:49:02 UTC

Uncomfortable is a powerful writing tool, but there are some things that cannot be appropriately covered in text alone.

2018-08-15 23:53:35 UTC

The original idea was a Twine game, which uses hyperlinks to reveal text or go to new passages of text. However, I cannot code, and my writing ability is college level. With publishing this, a publisher may not pick up someone writing this at sixteen. Or even want to touch this at all, because of the subject matter.
Edited for clarity.

Digging inā€¦
1. Early in Acts Peter and John are found causing disturbances with their preaching and healing in Jesusā€™ Name and on numerous occasions are brought before the Sanhedrin in an attempt to silence them. Read *Acts 5:12-42*. Missionaries are often called into hostile territory, requiring a willingness to sacrifice. Among those sacrifices are:
ā€¢ Culture shock
ā€¢ Language difficulty
ā€¢ Government resistance
ā€¢ Often not wanted where they are
ā€¢ Identity confusion - whereā€™s home?
ā€¢ Financial and career
ā€¢ Stress disorders
ā€¢ Grief and loss
ā€¢ Re-entry/reverse culture shock
What do you think would be the hardest thing to give up?

2. Missionary work requires a courageous faith and you can read about such faith in Hebrews 11. Throughout Scripture (e.g. Col 3:1-4; Heb 12:1-3) we are reminded that through the struggles and trials of this life we need to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus and the life to come. What comforts of this life do we give up now in preparation for the resurrection?

3. ā€œI can do all this through him who gives me strengthā€ (Philippiansā€¬ ā€4:13ā€¬). And yet, often even the most faith-filled are afflicted by fear. How much can we miss out on by being afraid? What could life be like without that fear?ā€¬ā€¬ā€¬ā€¬ā€¬ā€¬

4. Missionary work takes a team approach - Read *Exodus 17:8-13*. Victory was assured as long as Moses held up his hands, but he needed help from Aaron and Hur to support his hands as the battle was long and his strength finite. Missionary work is not just about the one sent, but also the team who sends and supports. What support can you give to hold up our missionaries?

A brief intrusion into this topic, but while regarding the idea of persecution of faith in foreign lands, there is this video. The context is the Yugoslavian conflicts, and how quickly things can fall through. I don't mean to derail the discussion, I only wish to share this.

2018-08-16 00:50:14 UTC

But do go on as you were.

2018-08-16 00:51:33 UTC

@RETROSPECT Relevant to what you were just discussing.

For people interested in extra-scriptural religious writings, particularly patristics - those of the early church fathers - about avoiding Sin and temptation, I invite you all to read this.
