John chapter 8:12-30

1. The opening words of vs. 12 say “When Jesus spoke again…” – This reminds us of Jesus patience with the Pharisees. How have you personally experienced His longsuffering and patience?




2. Jesus used the illustration of ‘Light’ in the middle of the Festival of Tabernacles because it made sense to those He was talking to. What are some things that people experience in society today that we could use to help them see Jesus?



3. Read verses 15 & 16 again. What did Jesus mean when he said they ‘judge by human standards?’ How can we understand His claim that he ‘passes judgment on no one’ in light of what other Scriptures tell us about the coming judgment for unbeleivers?


4. Verse 13 is the objection to Jesus claim to be the light of the world. They were using His own words against Him that He had said in 5:31 (look this up and compare). Was Jesus contradicting Himself? How can we understand this?




5. In verse 19 the Pharisees asked ‘Where is your father?’ What does that reveal about their understanding of who Jesus was?




6. Being a follower light of verse 12 bringing out that following is multifaceted and not simply basking in the light and enjoying the benefits. What does it mean to you to ‘follow’ Jesus?
