ok story time. There was a POW camp north of my city in WW2. we paid them to cut down trees for the war effort and some stayed in Canada after the war because they liked it here. (There's a good sized german population here) So I was working at the museum in 2012 and this germen family shows up and between their broken english and my broken german I found out what they wanted.

The father of this family, his dad had been kept here and only returned home in 1952. He told his family at the time that because he was an officer
(he wasn't) he'd been kept longer. In reality he'd had an affair with a Canadian women and had only returned home when her family found out who he was.. During this time they'd had a child. (son) and now this family was trying to find this half brother they never knew they had.

After looking through old cencus records with them we found him still living in the town on Kenora where the camp had been.
