The UK has been pulling this garbage since WW I (In my observation). They have to be by far the most gun restrictive country in Europe that I know of. After WW I the Allies took Germany to turn in their guns and/or dismantle them. The Germans obliged. Then by pressure for the Allies again, and Ally puppets in the German government they then said, oh let's just round up everyones guns and dismantle them because it is "dearmament." And the sas thing is the Allies put such heavy gun restrictions on the Germans that it took Adolf Hitler and the NAZI Party to reverse some of the laws to allow citizens to have free-er gun laws.

We've only had shitty gun laws relatively recently

There was a big push for the New World Order across Western Society. For example, in the U.S. after the second world war General George S. Patton was told that he must retire because the "New America" did not require his services. It got so bad that Patton wrote that he regretted even fighting in the war because in the end he deemed it all for nothing. This stuff is buried pretty deep and the only way I found out was skimming through the Library of Congress and pulling documents.
